Making sure the feather flag is secure at our Bike Rodeo at the Chico Branch of the Butte County Library.

Autumn in Chico is always a welcome change especially after a warm summer.  It is the perfect bike riding weather if you enjoy cooler mornings followed by temperate afternoons.  Unfortunately, my own fall riding has been a little slow going as I've been busy with Velo.  We have had an incredibly busy and spectacular September and October here at Chico Velo in our community! We hosted 24 bike valet engagements, 3 Bike Rodeos, the Forest Ranch Hill Climb Time Trial, and we participated in Make a Difference day installing privacy slats around the bike racks at Citrus Elementary school to deter bike theft. I can't thank all of the volunteers who helped us with all of these events, the Velo staff, my family, and you for coming out and supporting Chico Velo and riding your bicycle!  Thank you everyone who participated!

After an incredible September and October, I'm looking forward to a little fall riding.  Just have to make sure I have my lights all charged up as the days are once again getting shorter.  I look forward to seeing you out on the road enjoying these beautiful fall days as well! Don't forget to Bike your VOTE on Tuesday, November 6!

Chico City Council:  On Tuesday, September 19, 2018 Renee attended the Chico City Council meeting.  On the agenda was Old Humboldt Road and whether or not to authorize staff to pursue closing the road to Vehicular traffic leaving it open for pedestrians and bicyclists.  Renee spoke on behalf of Chico Velo and Cyclists advocating for the closure of the road to vehicular traffic.  Chico Velo was able to talk on behalf of the tourism side with solid numbers from our Wildflower event with over 1200 cyclists riding up the road in one day, not to mention the countless others who do ride up the road throughout the year.  Renee also advocated on behalf of cyclists riding up the road for a safer Humboldt Road.  Council voted unanimously approving staff to further pursue the road closure with Butte County.  Staff will go back to council for final approval to close the road in the near future.  We guarantee that Chico Velo will be present for the vote speaking on behalf of bicyclists.

Advocating for improvements!  We have been hard at work this last month partnering with the City of Chico and the Bicycle/Pedestrian Working Group to help the City update their Bike Plan.  The City of Chico staff is hoping to have the plan go to City Council for approval in December.  Rest assured we will keep you posted when the Bicycle Plan is on the agenda.

Our Trailworks Crew have been in a heavy planning mode gearing up for some spectacular fall work days.  Thanks to the Forest Ranch Hill Climb Time Trial participants we will be acquiring new tools to allow for more volunteers to help during our workdays and for us to do a little more specialized work. All we need is a little moisture to make the trails in Upper Bidwell Park a little easier to work.  In the mean time we will be updating signage in the park and begin brushing until we can do some actual shovel work.  Stay tuned for upcoming work days.
