| Namdia at Mining Expo |
| |
A dedicated dB Design-, Sets-, Technical- and Production Team translated Ogilvy Namibia’s concept for Namdia’s stand at the 2019 Mining Expo & Conference into a winning collaboration. The set was awarded the best stand trophy.
“The design consisted of many odd angles and few straight lines. This made it a real challenge to build,” explains our Senior Sets Technician, Victor Josef.

"100 Years of Hospitality" is the message Team dB amplified for Hilton Windhoek recently, as the world’s first global hotel company celebrated their milestone centenary. "It's always exciting to use the Robe BMFL for building gobo projection as it's such a bright and sharp fixture", commented Natangwe Ndenge, our junior lighting technician, who managed the project. | ‘I Go Namibia’ launch |
| |
Standard Bank Namibia and ICBC China recently launched I GO NAMIBIA, an exciting new product which supports banking services and special discounts for travelers between the two countries.
dB Audio Namibia provided Tamonika Events with all the required technical event support to help bring their unique concept to life. It centered around blue and red lines criss-crossing the venue to symbolise the triggering of possibilities as personified by the triggering of a custom-designed AV effect which marked the dramatic launch moment. | Continuous Professional Development |

Our Senior Lighting Technician, Gillroy Barmann, was flying the Namibian flag high in Johannesburg on 28 May where he attended a Studio Lighting Workshop at DWR. Gillroy successfully motivated his participation with a great proposal to his Technical Manager pointing out how this newly acquired knowledge and exposure will not only benefit Team dB, but the Namibian industry at large.
The workshop covered topics such as understanding hard & soft light, how to light faces, and lighting plot planning. It was presented by Peter Rieck who is well known in the South African industry for lighting countless studio and television productions.

Always on the look-out for exposure to see how related industries operate, Team dB jumped at the opportunity to observe Good Morning Namibia live at the NBC headquarters. “I noticed how GMN is a well-oiled machine, but that everyone is always ready for changes at any time. In that sense live TV is a lot like live events,” says JD Januarie. “It was my first time in a TV studio and to see behind the scenes. It is very different from what you see on TV. It was a very interesting experience,” adds Filippus Taapopi. Thank you to the GMN crew and presenters for making us feel at home and for showing us around.

| Innovation Technology Bazaar |
| |
The ‘Inclusive and Collaborative Local Tech Innovation Hub’ and the Faculty of Computing and Informatics at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) hosted the first ever national Innovation Bazaar on 22 and 23 May. An enthusiastic Team dB contingent couldn’t wait to pay a visit.
“For me the highlight was the solar car. It is very impressive that these young guys have managed to get this far building it.” – Maria Nakanyala.
“I was impressed by a young lady who showed us an APP she developed which tracks farm animals using GPS. It even sets up a geo fence to notify you when your animals are crossing the boundary.” – Martin Nangolo.
“I enjoyed the virtual reality game called ‘Tales of the Tokoloshe. It was a weird but fun experience!” – Karaa Kakero

Jeanne-Danae Januarie, better known as JD, is a Client Service Representative at dB Audio Namibia. But she is also a mover and shaker in the larger Namibian creative industry. As an actress, her first feature film “Unlikely Encounter”, was released recently, and as a singer, she debuted at Song Night during May. She also lists playing the lead in a musical “Aspoestertjie”, which toured Namibia during 2017, and being an on-air host on Westcoast FM, as some of her creative accomplishments.
“I tried my hand at various other careers which ranged from working in a bank to teaching primary school, but quickly realised that my passion lies with performing and everything around that. I am not good with routine, so this is the perfect environment for me where no two days are ever the same! I really enjoy getting to know the behind-the-scenes mechanisms of the overall industry, and learnt so much from doing script continuity on the #LANDoftheBRAVEFILM set, and from the few months at dB Audio Namibia so far.
Who knows what the future holds – I believe one’s goals and dreams change over time, but in the future I certainly still see myself in this industry – as an actress, a singer, possibly a director and certainly as mentor for other young people who are reaching for the stars.”
