Greetings Growing Up Boulder Families and Friends,

GUB is pleased to announce that the Community Foundation Boulder County selected GUB to spearhead healing with and for children and youth in response to the 2021 Table Mesa tragedy (King Soopers shooting, #boulderstrong).   Growing Up Boulder (GUB), in partnership with  Mayamotion Healing (MMH), will lead a year-long process to hear from diverse young people about what they most need to heal and support their resilience; then, GUB, MMH, and community partners, will offer coordinated and responsive support.

Key partners in this effort include, but are not limited to: University of Colorado’s Renee Crown Wellness Institute, Mental Health Partners/Boulder Strong Resource Center, Boulder Valley School District, the City of Boulder, and the Museum of Boulder.

We also wish to acknowledge the deep losses children and families are experiencing in our community due to the Marshall Fire.  We hope that our offerings below will be supportive to the healing process from any of the multiple crises (the pandemic, racism, fires, climate change, gun violence) that our young people are facing.

GUB, MMH, and the Crown Institute have organized a group of self-selected high school students to serve on a “Youth Leadership Healing Committee.”  The Committee will plan and facilitate a "Youth Healing Day of Remembrance” on or around 3/22, and the Committee itself will engage in fun and supportive practices, such as art, movement, mindfulness, and music while planning the event for their peers.

GUB and the Museum of Boulder invite children and youth up to age 18 to document and offer their reflections in regards to the March 22, 2021 tragedy by submitting: photographs, art, handmade objects, poetry, or stories for the museum's archive and/or possible use in upcoming exhibits. Images of these items should be sent to [email protected] by February 4, 2022.

Some (or all, depending upon the number) of the submissions will be displayed concurrently with the Museum of Boulder's Still Strong: Remembering March 22, 2021 exhibit. Thank you in advance to our young people for offering insight, compassion, connection and healing for the whole community through your creativity.
