December News

Hey Fellow Phoenixes! It's now the end of December and I'm not a fan of this colder weather. I've been spoiled to this warm, sunny southern California weather. For those of you that celebrate this holiday--Merry Christmas and a safe and happy New Year! October is one of my favorite months because of the creepiness it brings. I Love scary, thriller, suspense movies & TV shows full of monsters, fantasy, excitement. Watching them and feeling those feelings with the season change it very special for me. Halloween is cool, too.

I also like October because in watching these kinds of movies and being in that state of mind if gets my imagination flowing and I start brainstorming on creatures I want to create that will push my creative boundaries.

Fredo Hernández

I wanted to share this with you guys, first, this beautiful collectible artwork that caught my attention the second I walked into this New Orleans souvenir shop-I knew I had to have it! I went to the cash register and as the lady was ringing up this statue she looked at the price, looked at me, and asked "You know this is $60.00, right?!" I replied "Absolutely.", she replied "Is that okay??" and I chuckled and said "Of course!".

Having returned from my family vacay to New Orleans, I realized something tied to a personal shopping experience that coincides with us artists and pricing our art.

I will be blogging about this so keep an eye out for when this gets posted. It'll be eye-opening and will offer a new, fresh perspective -- you know what, I can't help myself so I'll tell you guys about it now...!

She then smiled and stated "Well, I think that's too much!"... and it hit me instantly-the value of the statue to ME versus the cost of the statue to HER and it really started a though process, one that blew my mind. To me, this statue was inspiring, captivating, it made me smile, it motivated me... to me, it was worth every penny because of everything the statue did for me, but to someone who doesn't appreciate the statue for what I did, someone who didn't have any kind of connection or for that matter, a liking to it, they wouldn't even consider buying it.

So it got me thinking because I applied that scenario to our Artdoll world and the inner-struggle we the Artists have with often times under-valuing our artwork when it comes time to pricing them to sell. We have to price our art appropriately to include our time, attention to detail, materials, because somewhere our there is a person who will have a very similar connection with the art you make and the price you set for your artwork will be "worth every penny" to them when that personal, emotional connection is made.

And so with tis new found realization I can confidently go forth and know that I am pricing my art as I should be (not crazy over or under-priced) and I know that it will make a difference with someone out there... it's all timing guys, just like with everything in life. The right person has to find the right work of art at the right time, you just never know when that time is going to be which is why we have to stay committed and tenacious at continuing to put our work out there for the public to see.

I had made a commitment to participate in the remaining IADR 2017 Member Shows. This past show in September and November I was annoyingly not able to finish my submission to be able to enter. I'm very bummed as I feel as though I let the Members down in joining them on the fun, but more so, let myself down. It's been my desire to SCULPT MORE OFTEN to be able to complete Artdolls more frequently to then put them out into the world to sell them.

I already know that my main problem is lack of focus, and not for lack of desire, but I need to practice the skill of focus just like practicing the skill of sculpting. I have a desire to sculpt full-time; to be able to have my Artdoll sales at least match my corporate income so I can say goodbye to Corporate America for good. But to be able to do that I HAVE to be able to put in the time, continue improving my skill-set to put out quality Artdolls.

Sometimes having a passion and desire for something isn't enough to lead the way to being great at it. Sometimes you need discipline to employe other skills like time-management... commitment... dedication... tenacity... FOCUS. Things I'm trying to get better at.

One thing I know is, I WILL GET THERE.

What are those tubes & rods used for?

They are used to assist in making a sculpture stand on it's own without having to use a stand for it. The tubes & rods are inside of the sculpture and you sculpt around it.

I have found a fantastic resource for creating eBay listings to sell our artwork!

Picture

I've been on a search for a professional-looking, easy-to-use, inexpensive solution for the past two years to list my Artdolls on eBay to have it convey the type of style and quality I foresaw for presenting my artwork to the public as a product and I have found it. Click on the image above to visit the site and find out more and try it out. Hope you find this useful as I do.
