Pathways Rhythms September 2022 Prayer of Commitment (NEW) In person and online Tuesdays, 8-8:30am Tuesday morning prayer has a new look! Each Tuesday we commit to praying Pathways values in real and possible ways. Our values are not simply ideals, but actual ways of being that ground us in God and nurture our shared life. What we do flows out of who we are in God. Join us each Tuesday morning in this contemplative prayer of commitment with optional conversation following prayer. Rest, Reflect, Renew Retreat Saturday,October 8, 9:30am-2:30pm This retreat offers an opportunity to find rest for your body, mind and soul. Come away to Pathways Retreat’s beautiful setting to explore and experience the power of rest in your life through word, creation and solitude. This retreat is limited to 6 participants to ensure private retreat room space. Facilitator: Julie Stegelmann Cost: $60 Bring your own sack lunch Register Saint Francis of Assisi Animal Blessing Sunday, October 9, 4pm Bring your beloved animal friend for Pathways Retreat’s annual Animal Blessing which includes a walk through the woods, a short blessing service, and snacks. Please bring your own chair for this outdoor event and check our website home page if the weather is questionable. Be praised, O God through all your creatures . St. Francis Volunteer Survey Pathways Retreat exists thanks to the generosity of our community. While financial support is essential, it isn't the only way you can be involved. Pathways has many opportunities for volunteers to participate in the life of the community. Consider contributing your time and talents to support the mission of Pathways Retreat. In these days of polarization, pandemic, stress, and uncertainty, Pathways offers rest, reflection and renewal. One of our guests recently said: "As always, when I come here I experience God's presence and refreshment. There is so much peace on the property. I am able to come as I am and be with God." We're building a database of people who might be willing to help. Please take a few minutes to fill out this survey . This doesn't obligate you to do anything. We'll use this to send out specific requests as needs arise. For example, occasionally we'll have a storm come through and take down a tree in the woods. We'd love to know who in our community has a chain saw and might come out to aid in cleaning up the downed tree. We also imagine there are people who care about removing invasive species and would find it satisfying to spend a few hours pulling hairy vetch before it goes to seed in the summer. There are also less strenuous opportunities to help and things to do indoors. The survey lets you share your interests and availability so that we're better able to match you with tasks that connect to your interests, and perhaps with others who share your interests. Thanks for considering. Volunteer survey Contemplative Practice with Animals Be Present with an Animal If a cat purrs while you stroke it, be completely present to the stroking and the purring. The cat is present; become present with it. Or listen to a bird sing. They interact with each other and reply to each other’s tunes and variations. They are present to each other through song. We may be present through careful listening. Get to Know Another Species If you keep a cat, dog, horse, parrot, rabbit, hamster, lizard, goldfish, stick insect, or another kind of animal, you are already getting to know another species. If you have, or have had, more than one cat, dog, horse, or other animal, you also know that each animal is different. Each expresses its unique individuality within the context of its species’ instincts. You can get to know a wild species by observing animals that live near you — like birds in your garden or a nearby park. Watch and listen to them, perhaps feed them, learn to know their names and habits. Or you can raise caterpillars or tadpoles and witness their transformation into butterflies, moths, or frogs. The better you know your chosen kind of animal, the more you may appreciate its way of being. You may feel connected to a world much wider than your human concerns and with which you share a common source.
