RETURN TO SCHOOL

THANK YOU

The PTO delivered flowers to the school offices this week and would also like to take a moment to extend a huge thank you to Roberta Zarea and the PVSD Board for all of their work bringing our children back to school safely and offering a virtual option for families not yet ready to come back in person. Juggling the frequently changing guidelines from the state and county and the needs of all members of our school community has not been an easy task and we are grateful for the many, many hours of work they have put into this undertaking. Lynette Hovland, Kristen Shima, and all of the PVSD teachers and staff, please know how much we appreciate all of your work and care for our children. Thank you to each and every one of you.

RETURN TO SCHOOL

In preparation for our return to school please follow these links:

"10 Things to Do Before Returning to School" which outlines our safety protocols for on-campus learning.

"School Reopening Health & Safety Overview for Parents" which outlines our safety protocols for on-campus learning

"PVSD COVID-19 Social Contract" identifies important ways we can all play our part to reopen our schools... and stay open.

FACE COVERINGS

Nurse Abbe has put together a great resource for all things face covering related. From tips and tricks to get your kids to wear them to good places to buy them. Also a reminder: Neck Gaiters, Bandannas, and Masks with Ventilation Valves or Vents are not permitted for use at school. Go to the PVSD Website to read all of her suggestions.

FACE COVERING INFO

Wish Lists

The exciting news is that the site-wide needs are now fully met! We are so grateful that the Foundation has offered to redirect the annual endowment grants to cover the larger site-specific COVID response related wish list items and families can focus additional wish list donations on helping get their child/children's classrooms restocked.

Please see the wish lists below for each school:

Ormondale (https://ormondale-return-to-school-donations.cheddarup.com): K-1st grade wish lists available now (2nd-3rd coming soon)

Corte Madera (https://cms-return-to-school-wishlist.cheddarup.com): 4/5th grade wish lists available now (6-8th coming soon)

ART TO REMEMBER - Now in 2021

Every year, your child creates beautiful works of art led by their teacher or Ms. Horgan (CMS) and you are able to preserve your child’s artwork on various keepsakes. In light of distance learning, we decided to postpone the Art to Remember program until the spring with the hopes that the project can be teacher or Ms. Horgan led. You will still have the opportunity to purchase keepsakes which will be perfect for family members throughout the year. Questions? Please email Erin Sanders at [email protected]

HALLOWEEN

It’s October and, for most of our kids, that means the excitement of Halloween is near! Celebrations will be different this year (read the County Guidelines here https://cmo.smcgov.org/press-release/sept-28-2020-local-county-health-officials-offer-guidance-how-celebrate-halloween-and), but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy Halloween!

Here are some ideas PVSD families have submitted on how they plan to safely celebrate this year:

“We are having a small family Halloween party - lots of decorations and games.” The Causor Family

“We are planning to watch a scary movie, and do a scavenger hunt around the property and house, using a flash light only.” The Riley Family

“We are going to all out decorate our front porch AND our side door to give out candy to a few cute little neighbor kids. Our senior neighbors are doing the same. Only 4 little ones but will be fun for them and us. My older kids plan to try to do some outside movie or hang out with a couple friends.”

Favorite Halloween Movie

“The Addams Family & Halloween Town” The Causor Family

“Hocus Pocus” Cheryl Richter

Do you have a favorite Halloween treat?

“We make a big batch of rice krispies and all the kids decorate their square.” The Causor Family

“Scotcheroos (Recipe on Rice Krispies website)” Cheryl Richter

Let us know how your family is planning to safely celebrate and we’ll share your ideas in the October 25 edition of the PTO Weekly: https://forms.gle/NfrTK3ciGaYVHzez9

PLEASE PARTICIPATE IN THIS YEAR’S HALLOWEEN “MONSTER MASH UP” PRESENTATION!

BY OCTOBER 22ND, ALL SUBMISSIONS SHOULD GO INTO THIS ALBUM.

Email [email protected] if you have trouble uploading or text 310-497-9856.

See Options for Participation below—Note we’ve added Option #4!

Option #1:  Submit a video of your child/your family doing some dance moves in costume.

Do your own moves or follow some of these in this 5 minute instructional video

Option #2:  Submit a photo of your child/your family in costume, past or present.

Option #3:  Submit a video of your child answering, “Why I love Halloween.”

Option #4:  Submit a photo of your carved pumpkin, or particularly “spook-tacular” yard decorations.

We’ve already got a lot of fun footage (and hilarious surprises) but we want EVERYONE in the mix—don’t delay and join the fun!!!
