Improved Taro Production

Samoa IBC has been working diligently with our sister company, USO Agrifoods, and we are very pleased to have brought to fruition two projects that will focus mainly on improved taro cultivation practices for USO, one of the leading frozen taro exporters in Samoa. The first is a

recognized partnership with the Pacific Horticultural and Agricultural Market Access Program (PHAMA Plus) which aims to improve taro supply by implementing improved production practices as well as creating a more inclusive, Family Farm, environment.  The second is a grant from the Pacific Development and Conservation Trust in NZ to implement a mixed sheep/taro demonstration plot in order to trial a natural solution to weed management and fertilization for taro plantations. This project also involves replanting thousands of native trees in the inland areas of Sapunaoa village.

Legislative Drafting - Watershed Regulations

Picture

The legal expertise at Samoa IBC has been working hand in hand with the Samoa Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment - Water Resources Division to draft national regulations for the management of upland watershed areas.  The development of these

regulations are in support of the implementation of ecosystem responses upstream for decreasing flows during extreme weather events in the water catchments of Samoa.
