February NEWSLETTER Do you believe in the power of early childhood education? Do you think it lays a foundation for future curiosity and a love of learning? Do you think that families are integral to this foundation? Do you think it should be accessible for all? If you answered yes to any of these questions, please explore the pages of our February Newsletter to learn more about what is happening at Escuela Cooperativa de Sayulita. This marks the 3rd year for our tuition-free preschool. Escuela provides an educational opportunity for young children in a safe environment where learning happens through play and cooperative activities. Parents are actively involved through the daily hot lunches they bring and their regular cleaning and maintenance of the classroom and grounds. Through our Montessori-based methods, children help each other learn life skills. Ranging from 3-5 years old, these children experience how cooperation and collaboration are the keys to success. An exciting new skill the children are learning this year is how to create and nurture a garden. Through this experience, they are planting seeds, watering the seedlings, and nourishing the soil with the compost they create with their leftover food and stir ever so diligently. They also learned that without protective fencing around the garden, the iguanas will eat the vegetables- especially the hot chile peppers! This month, the children had a surprise visit from a goat! Our master teacher, Dulce, brought her two goats to school. The children learned how to care for them and how important their milk can be to a family. At the end of the day, one goat went home with Dylan whose family has adopted her with promises to bring her back for visits! The next day, the children made "presentations" with drawings in class about their favorite animals and what they liked to eat. Our new after-school English language program has grown rapidly with 15 children coming three days a week from 4:30-6:00 to learn English. These children are older than our day students and are enrolled in the local public elementary school during the day where there is no English instruction. For this story to continue, we need you to share our excitement. Please join us to support Escuela Cooperativa, a community-based school where local parents and children come together in a supportive learning environment. This tuition-free school is only possible through individuals like each of us who believe that early access to education is the key to lifelong learning.
