Robots at a football game? Yep!

On October 19th, Eagle Robotics Teams 11364 and 7373 provided an Interactive Robot Exhibit at the Space Night themed tailgate party for the Mount Paran vs. Saint Francis football game. The teams set up an interactive booth displaying two programmed Baxter robots and last year's competition robots. This event allowed the team to display the Eagle Robotics program for the entire school, and encourage students of all ages to acquaint themselves with FIRST and STEM.

11364

Team 11364 Diamond Plate worked extremely hard in preparation for this league meet. The robot performed admirably in competition. At the end of the day team 11364 came out first in points and won the league meet! While in the pits, they were able to help a team in the Innovation League (Forsyth County) with programming systems difficulties.

7373

Team 7373 ran into some difficulties with their hook they use to get onto the lander with and ended up having to manufacture multiple new hooks throughout the day. However, team members Luke Spinetto and Ben Mueller were able to help other teams at the meet with their coding so that they would be able to compete, receiving accolades from other FIRST mentors and league coordinators

Volunteers - The Life Blood of the League

Picture

FIRST Tech Challenge and the Etowah League exist entirely on volunteer support. Without it, the league simply will not exist. Each team is requested to provide a volunteer for each meet. Some volunteer roles are technical in nature, others are not. Most volunteer roles require online registration and online training.  A volunteer role can be filled by anyone willing to take the time to learn what to do. It can be a parent, relative or sponsor. Our team likes to lead by example. Please take a few minutes and click here to find out what is needed to volunteer. Thank you!

Coaches' Corner

our teams do well.  they do good, too.

Picture

For all the technical expertise Eagle Robotics team members pick up while participating with the team, we celebrate them the most when they grow in the core value statements of our team.  This last weekend I witnessed those values in action, as Ben and Luke from Team 7373 took advantage of an opportunity to serve others.  But for what these two young men did, three teams would not have been able to compete at Meet #1.  They spent a lot of time at the league meet, teaching, coaching, and debugging other teams' programming issues. For that they received commendations from the League Coordinators, from a retired FIRST Senior Mentor, and from their coaches and Head of School. 11364 also helped a team with software issues, allowing communication between the onboard phone and driver station. Truly "It's not all about us" is not just a slogan, but a rule these team members live out.  We're all proud of you Luke, Ben, and Steven!
