october Super food KALE!
by Mrs. Bouman's 2nd Graders
Did you know that kale is nutritious and can help cancer go away? It’s one of the healthiest vegetables in the world. It is popular in Europe as well as the United States. This leafy green is packed with vitamins B6, A, C, and K. It also has lots of calcium and iron, which is important for our bones, eyes, and blood. Well, this super food’s definition means one who is manly and strong. Kale is so strong it can grow under snow which means it’s a winter crop. It has five times more vitamin C than spinach.
Kale should be part of your diet. You can put it in a smoothie for breakfast and in a salad for lunch or dinner. You can also saute it or put it in your eggs for breakfast. Don’t forget, you can make kale chips by putting them in the oven with olive oil.
So, don’t forget to eat lots and lots of kale because it’s super healthy for your body. Consider planting it in your garden this winter and enjoy a healthy crop.
For a delicious Kale Pesto recipe, click here.
Enjoy this yummy recipe. Forty-two Ormondale students thought this recipe was Yummy!

DONATION DAY, Friday 10/20
Friday, October 20th is the PVSF's Annual Campaign Donation Day!
Thanks to the generous funding of the Annual Campaign every year from district families, neighbors, staff, and local businesses, the District can provide small class sizes as well as provide excellent supplemental programs like music, physical education, and foreign language instruction. Additionally, the District is able to recruit and retain excellent teachers, hire classroom aids and learning specialists, and offer our students counseling services.
It's up to all of us, so please let's come together and make a difference for our kids by donating on or before Donation Day. You can donate using the button below, or write a check (made out to "Portola Valley Schools Foundation") and drop it off at either the CMS or Ormondale offices.
You can also bring your check on Donation Day to the car drop-off line at either school, and Foundation representatives will pick it up from you right from your car window. Easy!
Our goal is $900K. Please consider $2000k per student because this is the average contribution required to reach our goal. We recognize this amount may not be appropriate for every family. Some families, on the other hand, donate up to $5K to $10K year after year. Every donation makes a difference and is much appreciated. Thank you.
