April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

I recently joined the Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC) where I live.  I am excited to be part of the community efforts to prevent child abuse, a subject very close to my heart.  April is Child Abuse Prevention month and I would like to share the following resources with you and those who might benefit.

Books:

  1. "The Whole Brain Child" by Dan Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson, Ph.D. It includes 12 revolutionary strategies to nurture your child's developing mind and survive everyday parenting challenges.
  2. Brainstorm: "The Power and Purpose of the Teenage Brain" by Dan Siegel, Ph.D.  An inside out guide to the emerging adolescent mind, ages 12-24. Written for both teens and parents.
  3. "Parenting from the Inside-Out" by Dan Siegel, Ph.D.

Online Support and Classes:

Visit Love and Logic or call 800.338.4065 Mon-Fri 7:30am-4:30pm (MST). Provides support for Parents, Educators and Trainers around different age groups. I went through this program when my children were toddlers and found it to be very helpful in a number of ways, including being able to keep my cool and learning that "I don't have to come up with a consequence in the moment". I particularly liked the idea of "energy drain" and used that quite a bit when my children were young.
