   Almighty God,
whose most dear Son went not up to joy but first he suffered pain,
and entered not into glory before he was crucified: mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Transforming Mission – Gather 4pm

Our Sunday 4pm Gather service is now in its third month. Since the launch back in January we’ve spent time thinking through some questions about our faith, like ‘why Jesus?’, ‘why pray?’, and more recently, ‘why sing?’.

We’ve heard testimonies from Joff, Robin, Lucas, Stevie and Daniel, as well as an open mic evening with stories, prayer and poetry. It’s been fun, and there is more to come. This week the theme is ‘what is worship?’ and Hannah Mitchell will be leading the talk and discussion.

Gather is an informal, friendly church service, particularly tailored towards younger adults and young families, although everyone is welcome!

On the Way Updates

On the Way – Powder Deanery

The surveys have been collated with some interesting findings for the group looking at how ASH and TM can be fruitful and sustainable. Here are some of the findings from our community:

  • 72% of all responses were from people aged between 26 and 65.
  • We had 62 completed surveys returned.
  • Only 26 said they were a regular church attender.
  • 62% of all responders stated that a good addition to their community would be a safe environment in which they could meet people.
  • When asked what they felt was the most important a local community group could provide most people stated - firstly, friendship; and secondly practical help and support.
  • 64% of all respondees stated they had a faith or held to spiritual beliefs.
  • 33% of all respondees stated they were only seasonal church attendees.
  • For those who had been to church in the past the main thing they valued most from their experience of church was 'meeting with other people' and 'singing together'.
  • In the comments section there were several requests for safe community spaces for people to meet, spaces which also had provision for children.

We have now started to draft some conclusions from what the teams have heard you say, alongside taking into consideration the financial landscape of our churches.

Over the coming weeks every PCC in the deanery will have sight of the results of the consultation and have the chance to feedback their thoughts on the conclusions.

Please pray for this process, the aim of which is to help make the church more fruitful and sustainable.

Ongoing Covid-19 Safeguards

  1. Seating in church on Sundays -  As we return to a greater freedom from restrictions due to the pandemic, we still need to take care, especially of those of us who have greater vulnerability or susceptibilities themselves or who are protecting family members. We are therefore creating an area where people can remain a little more socially distanced and continue to wear masks - this will be marked by laminated sheets on the chairs. We ask everyone to be respectful of this, giving people the space to feel safe but welcomed back to our services.
  2.  Taking of communion - For now the team still feel it is unsafe to return to the common cup. However, as more people return to church and sit closer together it is beginning to be problematic to bring the bread to everyone, so we are going to return to a one way system to come forward to receive - we hope this will work better.  However, we will continue to take communion to those seated in the area mentioned above, or to those who are less mobile - just indicate to one of the wardens or welcomers and they will let whoever is presiding know.
  3. Gluten free bread - From Easter Day we will be returning to using bread rather than wafers and it will all be gluten free so that all will be sharing the 'one bread'.  Obviously all hygiene practices to protect everyone will be maintained.
