Learn about Tutoring with Los Ayudantes Next Year

Please join us to learn about volunteering with Los Ayudantes (translated, "The Helpers") from current volunteers that worked with students in 6-8th grade classrooms in Redwood City this past school year.

As a Los Ayudantes literacy tutor, you can make a true difference in the lives of students in Redwood City by volunteering in the classroom once or twice a week helping with reading and writing.  No special background or language skills are needed to be a volunteer, but we will be providing training for volunteers in September.  The main requirement is the desire to make a difference and to be passionate about helping kids in our neighboring school district reach grade-level proficiency so they can be successful in high school and beyond.

Join us at 11:30am - 1pm on Wednesday, May 30th, at a home in Woodside to learn more about the program and its impact.   A light lunch will be served.

If you're interested, please email our program director, Jenni Farrell at jenni.farrell@los ayudan tes.org.   Learn more at our website at www.losayudantes.org.

'GET A LEG UP' THIS SUMMER ON EXECUTIVE FUNCTION, WRITING & SOCIAL LEARNING:

FOCUS ON WORKING MEMORY, SOCIAL LEARNING, SOCIAL PRAGMATIC LANGUAGE & WRITING @ THE TALKING PLAYHOUSE IN REDWOOD CITY

Working Memory requires a symphonic network of pictures, sounds, text, experiential connectors, executive  functioning & pragmatic language skills so that information truly is categorized and remembered the right way. Otherwise "poof" it's gone after the test. This is especially key for individuals who are great at 'rote memory' for facts but struggle in other areas. This affects our academic performance, problem solving, social interactive skills, motivation, impulse control, etc.

WORKSHOPS SUMMER 2018:

1x - weekly. Flexible scheduling.

Parent Training with every session.

All classes conducted by a specialist in executive function social language state licensed therapist.

smartphone pledge

A group of PVSD parents have created a smartphone pledge letter and would like to share it with community families.

This pledge is gaining a lot of momentum in neighboring communities as well as nationwide (your child can still have a phone and be part of this pledge).
