    Thank you to Acme Fresh Market and their associates, The Albrecht Family Foundation, Katie Swartz and Jim Trout for providing $20,000 in groceries for our food pantries and for their financial support. Acme held their annual "Pack the Pantry" food drive fundraiser to benefit the Good Neighbors food pantries. We appreciate the generosity and continued support from Acme Fresh Market and the community!

Unit Activities

    During the 2017 year, our seven Good Neighbors locations helped more than 21,000 families (61,904 individuals) with groceries and 9,000 families (27,674 individuals) with clothing.  In addition, many of these families and individuals received personal and dental care supplies, household items, cleaning supplies, diapers, layettes, back to school supplies and Christmas gifts. Our dedicated volunteers gave more than 41,000 hours of their time to serve the people in need visiting our Good Neighbors food pantries and clothing units. 

Goodyear Heights Community Outreach and Food Center

    During the 2017 year, the volunteers gave more than 14,000 hours of their time to serve 12,679 families (39,211 individuals). On August 29, and again on December 21, the volunteers served 111 families in 3 hours. In January of this year, they were open 18 days (54 hours) and served 1,129 families (3,459 individuals).
    Valerie Straw coordinates the food drives to benefit the food center. Thanks to the following schools for donating food: Voris CLC, King CLC, Findley CLC, Schumacher CLC, Harris-Jackson CLC, Rimer CLC, Sam Salem CLC, Mason CLC, Robinson CLC, Windemere CLC, McEbright CLC, Litchfield CLC, Resnik CLC, Seiberling CLC, David Hill CLC, East High School, Firestone High School, Ellet High School, Archbishop Hoban High School and Miller-South School for Visual and Performing Arts.  Thank you to the food center volunteers for picking up all of the food drive donations from the schools.
    Windsor Park Estates apartment complex in Copley, Westminster Presbyterian Church and the LeBron James Grandmothers' Fan Club donates food and St. Andrew's Episcopal Church donates paper products, personal care items and cleaning supplies monthly to our food center.
    The food center is well stocked and ready to serve more than 1,000 families every month thanks to George Camilletti, Bill Sudduth, Mike Letta, Roger Reynolds, Phil Martucci, Jim Callahan, Mary Pallone-Thornton and Jenny Siebert, who haul thousands of pounds of food from the Akron Canton Food Bank and other grocery stores to the food center every week. The food center volunteers and friends from IBH continue to help unload and stock the food deliveries.
    George Camilletti is the food center chairman. Mary Pallone-Thornton, Jim Cuckler, Tom Fritsch, Wilma McMasters and Sandi Kaucic are the daily chairpersons.
    United Disability Services donated 400 pairs of new socks last year and 300 pairs of new socks this year. In addition, they had a soup cook-off fundraiser to benefit our food center and presented our Council President Valerie Straw with a $600 check.
    Laray and Nancy Salsberry donate hundreds of blankets and Keith Seher from Bright Star Books donates hundreds of books throughout the year for the families visiting our food center.
    The Summit County Juvenile Court Women's Board continues to donate blankets handmade by the children at Juvenile Court.
    The Ben Curtis Family Foundation donated more than 50 large turkeys for Thanksgiving.
    Nick Browning, the Huntington National Bank Akron Regional President, presented the food center representatives with a financial contribution from the Huntington National Bank Akron Foundation. 
    Good Neighbors is collaborating with the University of Akron Nutrition Department. This semester, their students are volunteering one day a week at our food center.
    Other volunteers helping at the food center have included the nurses from Akron General Medical Center and the students from Walsh Jesuit and Hoban High Schools.

Cuyahoga Falls Good Neighbors

    During the 2017 year, the volunteers gave 12,000 hours of their time  to help more than 4,282 families (11,131 individuals) with food and clothing. In addition, many of these families received household items, back to school supplies and Christmas gifts. 
    Even with bad weather, their Christmas Program was a success, thanks to the help and support from the city, police and fire departments, their generous supporters and dedicated volunteers. 473 families (1,286 individuals: 820 adults and 466 children) were helped with food and gifts for Christmas.
    Thanks to the Cuyahoga Falls Police Chief Jack Davis for delivering toys from the Toys for Tickets Program for their Christmas Drive.
    Currently, their unit is in need of boys and girls clothing sizes 6-16, towels and sheet sets.

​Ellet Good Neighbors

    During the 2017 year, the volunteers gave 1,240 hours of their time to help more than 813 families with food and clothing. 
    Ella Krinjeck and her family have been volunteering at the Ellet Good Neighbors for more than 50 years.

​Green Good Neighbors

    During the 2017 year, the volunteers gave nearly 10,000 hours of their time to help more than 2,501 families with clothing and 2,725 families with food. Many of these families were help with back to school supplies, Christmas gifts, personal care supplies, household items and layettes.
    Green Good Neighbors has a new donation policy, which can be found on our website.
    On February 28, the Green Good Neighbors celebrated their 50th anniversary with a cake for their volunteers. They had their first meeting on February 27, 1968, to discuss how to organize their unit.

​Spicer Good Neighbors

    During the 2017 year, the volunteers gave 400 hours of their time to help more than 120 families with clothing. 
    In the near future, the Spicer Unit will be moving to another location. Details will be posted at a later date.

Superior Good Neighbors

    During the 2017 year, the volunteers gave 800 hours of their time to help more than 600 families with clothing. They have seen a large increase of families and individuals visiting their unit.

Tallmadge Good Neighbors

    During the 2017 year, the volunteers gave 3,000 hours of their time to help 773 families with clothing and 475 families with groceries. Many of these families were helped with back to school supplies, Easter and Christmas gifts and food.
