A Word from Willyn...

Happy October Learners, Families, Staff, and Community!

It is with great joy that I write this month to share the School Performance Framework results for Vision Charter Academy.  This is the rating our school receives from the state, which is up from previous years!  That is because our testing participation rate increased, our growth increased, and our achievement increased!  Thanks to every learner who took the state PARCC tests, PSAT, and SAT!  Many, many of our learners demonstrated GROWTH and ACHIEVEMENT on the tests.  We are so proud of the effort, learning, and results of the tests.  Way to go!

Learners, when you get your test results, celebrate the areas where you achieved, look for areas to improve, and remember by trying your best in school each and everyday, you will show growth. We look forward to giving awards to all of you who show growth and achievement so work hard, have fun, ask questions, follow your dreams, explore your sparks, and thank you for being part of VCA.

Love,

Willyn

STUCO Corner                                 Fall Fun at VCA

The high school student council held our annual “Night in a Box” on Friday night, September 22.  Ten students and three sponsors played volleyball and other bonding games.  After the members ate chicken noodle soup and saltine crackers we climbed into cardboard boxes on the patio and watched the rain drip off of the roof. Yes, some of us got wet. One outcome of the event was empathy for those who may not have canned goods to pay for a trip to the bathroom or a roof under which they are allowed to camp.  We left Saturday morning feeling blessed and thankful for our homes and families. On Thursday, September 28, we toured the Abraham Connection in Delta to learn more about their ministry to the homeless and donate our canned goods and pledges.

Upcoming events include a bake sale on October 5th and 6th at Wal-Mart.  Anyone wishing to help Student Council earn money for student events with baked goods or other donations may email us at: [email protected]

Spirit Days are upon us!  All students school-wide are encouraged to participate:

Monday 23rd - Pajama Day

Tuesday 24th - Super Hero Day

Wednesday 25th - Twin day (dress like someone else)

Thursday 26th - Decade Day or Storybook Day

The week will culminate with Storybook Day/Fall Party on Thursday from 1:30-3:30 and a dance October 27th  (7-12)

Vanguard Awards

Last year, staff and students determined the most important aspects to an education at Vision Charter Academy. These traits have become VCA's Habits of a Scholar and serve as an ongoing reminder of our duties to the school and each other.

Each quarter, Vision learners have the opportunity to receive awards for using their Voice and making the Choice to Achieve. These awards are for learners who intentionally rise above the daily expectations of an education at VCA. In October and March (1st and 3rd Quarter), teachers, HQCs, and Advisors will nominate learners who have EXCELLED in the Habits of a Scholar. In December and May (ending each semester), learners will have the opportunity to nominate themselves for a growth award.

The First Quarter award will be a trip to the Covered Bridge Pumpkin Patch on October 20 at 1:30 p.m., by invitation only. It should be a lot of fun. Keep up the hard work and strive for a nomination! We value you!
