A complimentary light lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. followed by the program at 1:00 p.m. Toni Anne is a dynamic, inspirational speaker and will share her insights about the RNC and the upcoming national elections. Dashiell was first elected as RNC National Committeewoman for Texas in 2013. Recently, RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel appointed Dashiell as Chairman for the RNC Committee on Arrangements for the 2020 National Convention -- a prestigious position with tremendous responsibility. She also serves on the RNC Budget Committee. In 2008 and 2009, Dashiell served as president of the Texas Federation of Republican Women. During her tenure, the TFRW membership grew to more than 10,000 members. Also, during this time, she mobilized TFRW’s members to support Voter I.D. legislation, which was eventually passed by the Texas Legislature. And in 2009, the National Federation of Republican Women awarded her the Ronald Reagan Leadership Award. Toni Anne has been active in politics, grassroots advocacy and leadership training for more than 40 years. Toni Anne’s service as a volunteer grassroots leader dates back to 1968, when she worked on a presidential campaign as a member of Teenage Republicans. Since that time, she has been a consistent leader in numerous Republican campaigns including presidential, Congressional, statewide, city and county races. She was elected as a delegate to numerous Texas Republican State Conventions and served as a delegate to the 2004, 2008, 2012 and 2016 Republican National Conventions. She was appointed the Texas Community Service Leader at the 2004 National Convention in New York City, and organized the other delegates to clean up a stretch of riverbank in New Jersey. She also served on the 2016 Rules Committee in Cleveland. Toni Anne holds a B.A. in recreation therapy. She worked as a licensed nursing home administrator and established an Alzheimer’s Day Care Center before changing careers. Currently she holds two licenses for life insurance and real estate. Together, she and her husband, Tom, are small business owners, working in both real estate and insurance. She is vice president of Thomas L. Dashiell, CLU Inc. Insurance Sales and president of Dashiell Properties, Inc., Property Management Firm. Marsha Lovelady, VP of Programs From Denise's Desk I was blessed to participate in something very exciting for our area last Thursday evening, March 28. The very first organizational meeting for the Highland Lakes High School Chapter of the Republican Party of Texas took place with eight high school students, a Faculty Sponsor, a few parents, the Republican Party Chairs of both Burnet and Llano County, a few Precinct Chairs from Llano County, and yours truly, your Star Republican President. Gathering at Mojo Coffee in Marble Falls, these young people elected officers and began making plans for how they will involve themselves in political activities in their communities. It is very encouraging that there are young people who embrace the conservative values and principles that we, as Republicans, hold dear and that they want to work to promote these values. The officers elected are: President – Jess Luther Vice President – Logan Rutledge Secretary – Joshua Saldana Treasurer – Brice Duke The founding members of the HLHSR students are from high schools in Marble Falls, Llano and Burnet. Several adults collaborated to make this opportunity available to these students. This effort is one example of how we will work collaboratively across county lines, across conservative organizations, and across the state to “Keep Texas Red.” Another example of this is how the Llano County Republican Party Executive Committee is working with the conservative organizations – Star Republican Women, Highland Lakes Republican Women, Llano County Republican Club, and Llano Tea Party – to reach the 1,900+ registered voters who did not vote in the 2018 election as well as new registered voters in Llano County. Three “Meet and Greet” events are planned, and invitations to attend one of the three events are being sent to these 1900+ voters. Included in the invitations, the recipients will find information about each of the organizations and when their meetings are held. Hopefully, awareness of our meetings will draw new members to attend Star Republican Women. If you see unfamiliar faces at our next meeting, please introduce yourself and make them feel welcome. One more opportunity of which we will take advantage is to join forces with these other organizations on the evening of September 17, for a “Constitution Day Celebration” Dinner. Details are still being finalized, but along with a wonderful well-known guest speaker (TBA soon), both silent and live auctions are planned to raise funds for the Llano County Republican Party needed for the 2020 election battle we will face. Rather than a luncheon meeting for our Star Republican Women meeting on that day, it will be a joint evening dinner meeting with the other organizations (pending SRW Board approval). Save the Date – September 17, 2019 – because it will be inspiring, great fun, and an opportunity to bid on some fabulous items in the auction. It is such a privilege to work with such a great group of Republicans. Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your President. I always welcome ideas about how we can make SRW even more effective and relevant to you and others in our community to Keep Texas Red! Kathy Stahl, VP & Membership Committee Chairman 2019 SRW Membership Form Red Shoe Book Club To Meet April 23 Star Republican Women's Red Shoe Book Club will meet Tuesday, April 23 to discuss the book "Beneath a Scarlet Sky," by Mark Sullivan. SRW Literacy Committee Chairman Kathy Hussey will host the event at the Horseshoe Bay Resort Lantana Room from 4 to 6 p.m. ABOUT THE BOOK: "Based on the true story of a forgotten hero, Beneath a Scarlet Sky is the triumphant, epic tale of one young man’s incredible courage and resilience during one of history’s darkest hours. Pino Lella wants nothing to do with the war or the Nazis. He’s a normal Italian teenager—obsessed with music, food, and girls—but his days of innocence are numbered. When his family home in Milan is destroyed by Allied bombs, Pino joins an underground railroad helping Jews escape over the Alps. Kathy Hussey will lead the discussion about this book. Afterwards, attendees will participate in a C.H.A.T. (Chicks Having an Awesome Time) about a timely topic. Even if you haven't read the book, you can attend and enjoy the conversation about the book and other topics of interest to the group. Food and beverage service will be available on an individual pay as you go basis. Kathy Hussey, Literacy Committee Chairman SRW Continues Book Drive To Help Highland Lakes Area Foster Kids Star Republican Women continues its book drive to help the more than 275 children currently in foster care in the Highland Lakes Area. The program is being co-sponsored by SRW's Literacy and Caring for America Committees. SRW members are asked to bring children's books to our next SRW meeting. You can even order your books online and have them delivered directly to SRW, PO Box 8675, Horseshoe Bay, Tx 78657. SRW will deliver the books to CASA for the Highland Lakes Area to distribute to the children in need. When purchasing books for this effort, consider those books that can be read to toddlers which are greatly needed. For older children, books that are designated as Level 1 or Level 2 readers are needed to get them where they need to be in the classroom. Safe bets are those having received the Newbery Award or the National Book Award Winner. If your children or grandchildren would love the book, these children will as well!
