Check out this study that delves into how practitioners are addressing trauma in individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). They conducted an exploratory study using eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy on six IDD clients with known trauma histories. Despite the challenges, the researchers adapted the standard EMDR protocol to suit the individual needs of each participant. The results indicate that EMDR shows promise as a viable approach for treating trauma in individuals with IDD, underscoring its capacity to foster healing within this demographic.

Check out this study that compared the effectiveness of Enhanced Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT-E) alone versus CBT-E combined with EMDR for patients with Anorexia Nervosa (AN) who experienced moderate/severe childhood maltreatment (CM). Results showed that at both groups with CM showed improvements in BMI and eating disorder-specific psychopathology, with the CBT and EMDR group showing greater improvements. Learn more by clicking below!
