Celebrating a beautiful evening with Into the Neighborhood at Make Studio with friends, artists and volunteers in the RVA Recovery Community.

Magnum Opus Dei - Photos and Thanks

There are so many things to be thankful for following the love-filled evening event hosted by Make Creative Studio and Into The Neighborhood in celebration of the Art and Recovery program. Much gratitude to:

  • The Lord for the opportunity to serve Him and be a tangible expression of His love for all.
  • Our sponsors who made the evening happen!
  • The incredible variety of artists who created beautiful art while partnering to support Art and Recovery.  See more here.
  • To the brave and resilient recovery community for accepting and befriending us. Our lives are richer because you are part of it!
  • Our volunteers who greeted, served, cleaned and organized, prayed, played piano, created/posted social media, and so much more!
  • To St. Giles Church for hosting Magnum Opus Dei and home of Make! Creative Studio.
  • Thank YOU for coming and supporting the collaboration! We are so grateful that many of you came and gave of your time and resources to show up, support us, see old friends and make some new ones, too.

Homeschool Art Classes

Homeschool Art class for Kindergarten - Fifth Grade is registering now. There are still several spots remaining in this popular class.  Read more and register here.

We partnered with Youth Life Foundation of Richmond once again this summer in the studio for one of their "Fun Friday" Field Trips.  Children had a great time using their creative talents and learning about God the Master Artist.  Each child used an array of recycled materials to create a robot that they took home.  We are excited to continue these field trips this Fall with three more of YLFR's Learning Centers.

Imago Dei Neighborhood School

Make Studio is proud to be returning to Imago Dei Neighborhood School for Year 2!  This year our curriculum will be expanded to Third and Fourth Grade students in addition to K-Second.  Thanks to the amazing help of volunteers Kate Burns, Keri Smith and Brittany Burkett, the art program was a great success, culminating in an end of year art show that wowed us all - especially the students!  This year we welcome Mrs. Burkett as our official Wednesday Art Teacher for Make Creative Studio in Imago Dei School.  She will be teaching at IDNS along with Angie Cooke, who is there on Mondays. Welcome to the team Brittany!

In addition to working with the Extended Day JK students, we will also invite students in morning classes ages 3.5 - 5.   Classes begin in October and we will enjoy an art curriculum that explores both cultural and world diversity in art, along with basic art skills.

Make hosts Patty's Hope

Last month in the studio we had the privilege of hosting our first group of women from the local non-profit, Patty's Hope.  Patty's Hope is dedicated to providing support to women whose biological children have been in foster care.  We were blessed to welcome 12 volunteers and participants into the classroom for an evening of food, fellowship and calming art.  We are looking forward to partnering with Patty's Hope on a quarterly basis in the coming year.
