THE 10 COMMANDMENTS

WHAT THEY MEAN, WHY THEY MATTER, AND WHY WE SHOULD OBEY THEM

Led by Lee Barclay

God’s Word hasn’t changed, but our culture sure has!  We live in an age in which many people do not know the 10 Commandments or do not believe there is a personal God who has the authority to tell us what we ought to do.  Many say, “Right and wrong is what you decide for yourself.”  And yet, they also say, “You shall be tolerant,” “You shall not pollute the environment,” and so on.  In this culture, how do we understand God’s moral authority?  How do we understand God’s law?  How do we explain the 10 Commandments to our children and grandchildren, who may be confused or misled by hearing all these other views of right and wrong from their peers?  How will we ourselves live in thankful obedience to the God who saved us, when we too face pressure from the people around us who have different ideas and standards—or perhaps no standard at all?

Led by Lee Barclay, this 11-week series will use Kevin DeYoung’s 2018 book on the 10 Commandments to help us think through the issues.  Participants will be expected to read one relatively short chapter before each week’s session and consider the study questions in the back of the book.  Take advantage of this great opportunity to reexamine the 10 Commandments and how they apply in our world today!

The Five Lies that Ruin Relationships

Wrong beliefs produce wrong behaviors

Led by Mark Spee &

Malissa Eekhoff

This DVD class will use study materials from a retreat that Pastor Chip Ingram did a few years ago.   He asks questions like, why do we hurt the ones we love?  The book jacket says: "Have you ever looked back over a situation or relationship in your life and wondered how it became so messy or difficult? In the series from the book of James, Five Lies that Ruin Relationships, we'll define five of the most common lies that have the potential to ruin relationships with those we love. We'll also uncover the source of quarreling, how our words wound, and how not to make decisions.  We will discover that when we confront the lies we believe, there is power in knowing and applying God's truth to our relationships. Love" to explore and gain new hope for the life that awaits us in Jesus Christ!
