second harvest food drive
November 5-9th
The Ormondale 2018 Second Harvest Food Drive is coming up soon! This year it's November 5th-9th! Before the drive, students will meet with their school "families" to decorate paper bags to take home and fill with food to donate to the Second Harvest Food Bank. We hope you will send your Ormondale student with a bag full of food to donate during our food drive week! Last week we earned a bronze award from Second Harvest for our collection efforts -- lets beat that this year!
Bins will be available outside of the Ormondale office for donations 11/5-11/9 and we'll have volunteers during car line drop off to help as well. If you'd like to help, please contact Milana McCullagh ([email protected]).

October superfood - Sweet potatos by ms. Grech's students
Have you ever eaten a sweet potato? Well, this tasty vegetable grows under the soil and comes in many varieties, shapes, and colors. Sweet potatoes are packed with lots of vitamins such as A, C, B6 and important minerals like copper and potassium. This superfood is filled with antioxidant compounds, which promotes our health and our immunity.
A medium potato has 4 grams of fiber. It’s a great source of carbohydrates which helps our bodies build muscles. Eating this superfood helps fight against heart disease. It also improves brain memory, breathing, eyesight and digestion. So, try eating sweet potatoes to have a healthier life!
This month, Mrs. Wong’s class cooked a yummy recipe! Robert’s Supermarket has generously partnered with Ormondale School and will be providing all the fruits and vegetables for our superfood program and recipes. Please support Roberts by shopping in their stores.

Last week's assembly correction
Last Thursday, Ormondale students had the exciting assembly of Animal Tales. It's a live animal educational program that brings our student's favorite animal characters from their most beloved books to life with real live animals! The awesome program inspired student’s creativity, encouraged more reading, widen their consciousness, nourish there imagination, made them more compassionate, and helped them achieve their dreams. The presenter took the students on a fun and exciting reading journey by exploring books such as “Warriors,: “Pete the Cat,” and “The Little Critter Series.” The assembly also included classics like, 2018 John Newberry Medal winner “Hello, Universe,” “Peter Rabbit,” “Charlottes’s Web,” and “The Jungle Book.” The performance showcased several live animal ambassadors and related them to the characters in the books, while the presenter taught our students about animal-human relationships, empathy and compassion, natural history, and geography.
