Updates and Information

Welcome!

As we wrap up 2020, we are reminded of the many things to be thankful for!  While we spent much of the year, experiencing a pandemic that was not only unprecedented, but also unanticipated, there are many silver linings! The world came together in creative, and interactive ways; generations learned to communicate in a virtual world; and families got to spend more time together through Zoom and other platforms. Daughters of Haiti, while in its inaugural state, was able to connect to members and the Haitian community, all while driving the mission! We are excited about what lies ahead for 2021, and look forward to partnering with Haitian American organizations in our community!  The best is yet to come!

Wishing you and your family a Very Merry Christmas, and A Happy New Year! Soup Joumou for everyone!

Respectfully,

Cyndee Newman-Executive Director, Daughters of Haiti-Chicago

Johanne Jeanty

Johanne C. Jeanty is a first generation Haitian-American born in Chicago. Her parents are natives of Les Cayes in the southern region of Haiti. They migrated to the US a few months prior to her birth. Johanne grew up in the south side of Chicago until her family moved to the South Suburbs in the early 80s. She has lived in the area since then. Johanne pursued her Bachelor’s degree from Loyola University Chicago in Communication with a concentration in Public Relations. After a short break, she returned to Loyola to pursue her Master’s degree in Education with a concentration in Adult Corporate Instructional Management. Currently she is part of the executive team and holds the role of Human Resources Director at Timberline Knolls where she serves on the Performance Improvement, Environment of Care and Retention committees. A recent widow, Johanne still lives in the South Suburbs with her three adult children, who are all in college currently. She enjoys cooking and baking and personal fitness. Her leisure time is spent on self-improvement and quality time with family. She especially enjoys actively being a positive role model for not only her children but also for her many nieces and nephews. Johanne looks forward to being a positive influence for the members of Daughters of Haiti- Chicago and looks forward to serving all in various capacities. She currently serves as the Director of Membership, and lovingly, our resident chef! Learn more at the 'Our Team" page Here.
