BUSY - BUSY - BUSY

In spite of Covid-19 LBCC has been busy this spring and early summer.  Some of you may remember that late last year we had to rebuild the aluminum dock we had at the Llano County Park boat ramp. Unfortunately it was damaged again by an early spring storm, leaving it irreparable.  Bids were obtained for a new dock.  Dependable Docks in Leander was selected to build the replacement.  The new galvanized steel dock is now in place and is holding up well.  Fortunately for us, half the cost of the dock was covered by a Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) grant from Llano County.  Thanks Llano County Commissioners! 

Dependable Docks has also become a Business Member of LBCC.  If you are in need of a dock, give them a look.

The LBCC Information display at Llano County Park was completely rebuilt by one of our newest board members, Steve Williams. Steve is the owner/operator of the Dam Grill, a Business Member supporter of LBCC.  We thank Steve for his fine workmanship, and the great steak fingers he makes at the Grill.

We also elected another new board member recently.  Kaye Bayes joined the board last month.  She has agreed to head up our membership committee. We appreciate Kaye volunteering to help our efforts.


In mid-May this spring, member volunteers stocked our lake Buchanan with 1,100,000 hybrid striped bass fry.  We usually spend about $5000 each spring to cover the cost of the fry but we were very fortunate this year as the fry were donated to us by our partners at Texas Parks & Wildlife.  We are thankful to have such a great working relationship with TP&W.


Speaking of TP&W, we maintain official/certified weight scales on the lake.  The scales are located at Edgewater Resort and Thunderbird Resort.  We pay to have these scales re-certified annually, which was just recently done.  So, if you catch what you think is "the big one" don't forget to get it weighed in.

Really Big Deal

The other really big thing we did recently was to award $2000 scholarships to each of four talented graduating high school seniors.  We wish to thank our members and many supporters who make these scholarships possible.

Congratulations to our winners!  Christine Wilcox of Faith Academy will be attending Baylor in the fall.  Laramie Smith from Llano H.S will attend Texas A&M.  Ally Boland, Marble Falls H.S. will attend Texas Tech, and Clayton Atkinson from Burnet H.S. will be attending Boston College.

?   Uncertainty   ? 

You may have heard already we have cancelled our July general meeting due to concerns with the Coronavirus.  The Board members are struggling with the impact this virus thing has had and will continue to have on our fundraising. 

As you know we have a gun raffle every year, primarily to raise money to support our above mentioned Scholarship program.  We typically begin our raffle at the Bluebonnet Festival in Burnet held in April and hold the drawing at our annual Fish Fry held every Labor Day weekend.  Because of the cancellation of the Bluebonnet Festival we are way behind in the sale of raffle tickets.  Raffle tickets sell for $10. each or 6 for $50.  To buy tickets please email [email protected] or phone     512-470-1138 for Ron Abshier, Raffle Chairman, or contact any board member.

Another negative impact on our finances will be if we are forced to cancel the annual fish fry and silent auction.  Our Board of Directors will make a decision by the end of this month to plan how to proceed or cancel the event.  We will keep you posted.
