DEPARTMENT NEWS

OCTOBER IS NATIONAL ARTS AND HUMANITIES MONTH

Since its inception in 1903, the City of Oxnard, California has cultivated a rich and diverse tapestry of community arts and cultural traditions.  Rooted in immigrant stories, and steeped in the history of a diverse populace, the arts in Oxnard, span a chasm that includes many cultures, customs, and narratives, forming the essential fabric of Oxnard life, then, now, and into the future.

In celebration of National Arts and Humanities Month, 2017, the City of Oxnard is highlighting a series of cultural and artistic events that honor our roots. These events and their coordinating organizations represent a birds-eye view into the creative heartbeat of Oxnard's core, and the essential narratives found prominently in Oxnard's history and today.

Please join us as we uphold the four-point thrust of National Arts and Humanities Month and:

FOCUS on the arts at local, state, and national levels;
ENCOURAGE individuals and organizations to participate in the arts;
ALLOW governments and businesses to show their support of the arts; and
RAISE public awareness about the role the arts and humanities play in our communities and lives.

In honor of this celebration, please join the City of Oxnard's Cultural Arts Commission and Cultural and Community Services Department on Tuesday, October 10, from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. for a reception.  Come and enjoy light appetizers and entertainment, meet local artists, and talk to others that are excited about art in Oxnard. The reception will be held at the former Social Security Building (445 South B Street, Oxnard, CA). For more information, please call 805-385-8147.
