Governor's Appointments Director

Peggy Venable to Speak Jan. 16

Picture

Governor Greg Abbott’s Appointments Director Peggy Venable will speak Tuesday, January 16 to Star Republican Women at Quail Point Community Center in Horseshoe Bay. The program begins at 1 p.m., following a complimentary light lunch at 12:30 p.m.

Gov. Abbott named Ms. Venable to her current position in September 2017.  In this role, Venable assists the Governor in the appointments of individuals to serve on state boards, commissions, councils, and task forces, as well as state elected and judicial offices when vacancies occur by resignation or death of the office holder.  During a four-year term, the Governor will make approximately 3,000 appointments within his authority granted by the state’s Constitution.

Prior to her current position, Peggy served as a Senior Visiting Fellow for the Texas Public Policy Foundation.

For more than 30 years, Ms. Venable has worked in public policy and grassroots campaigns – in government, the political arena and the private sector.

Peggy spent 15 years in Washington, D.C., working for three Administrations and focused on public policy issues in the areas of education, natural resources, energy and transportation.  She was White House Liaison for the U.S. Department of the Interior and the Department of Education.  She was at the Department of Education when the idea for “A Nation at Risk” was conceived, which was our country’s first “wakeup call” that our education system was falling behind.  She continues her strong advocacy for education system changes to this day.

After returning to Texas, she served 20 years as the Texas director for Americans for Prosperity.  This conservative advocacy group has more than 2 million activists committed to educating citizens about economic policy and mobilizing those citizens as advocates in the public policy process.

A native Texan, Peggy graduated from Texas State University and received a master’s degree from Baylor University.

Happy New Year !

What a great year we had in 2017! Trump took office as our President and off we went. President Trump took on the media, promised to "Drain The Swamp" and set about with an agenda that has brought about positive results in many facets of our government.

Conservative Neil Gorsuch was appointed Supreme Court Justice, border regulations are being inforced, Obamas' executive orders are being reversed and a Tax Reduction is in place.

Power is being given back to the People, which is President Trump's ultimate goal. So many other positives can be listed, and we are back on track.

Our Republican club has also been working to build a stronger working, positive, informed membership with speakers bringing light to educate ourselves and help reach out to others for building a stronger more informed society. We learn from living and by spreading our good values to others and continue to show our good neighbors what a good Republican is actually about.

Help us to keep building our membership with yourself involved, and continue to pray for our President and our Nation in this New Year.

Blessings to All!

Gennie Ward, SRW President

More than  90 Star Republican Women members and guests attended the 2017 SRW Christmas luncheon at the Escondido Golf and Lake Club December 12.  Good food. Good Friends.  And beautiful decor!

SRW's Ways & Means Committee created Christmas decorations that donned the tables at the holiday luncheon.  The beautiful arrangements were sold, and net proceeds  were received by the SRW PAC.

Red Shoe Book Club

To Meet January 23

Picture

Star Republican Women's Red Shoe Book Club will meet Tuesday, January 23.  The featured book will be "The Lilac Girls" by Martha Kelly.

The story begins in New York City in 1939 when many wealthy French citizens are moving to the United States in fear of the impending war with Germany.  The heroine of the story works to help the French navigate their move to NYC.  The discussion will be led by our 2018 Literacy Chair Dee Patterson.

It was my pleasure to be the facilitator for our Red Shoe Book Club this past year and I want to thank all of you for your support in making this such a fun group.  Please welcome Dee at our January book club to be held in the Lantana Room at the Resort at Horseshoe Bay on the fourth Tuesday which is the 23rd at 4 to 6 PM.

We hope you will wear your red shoes and join us for a lively time of sharing our thoughts and views about this intriguing book.

SRW Patron and Sponsor Programs

To Help Candidates & Communities

Picture

At the end of 2017, Star Republican Women announced two new programs to help raise funds Star's political contributions for the upcoming 2018 elections and to support its Caring for America activities in local communities.

The SRW Sponsorship Program provides candidates, elected officials and small business owners to gain visibility among our membership through advertising in our newsletter, directory, website and membership meetings.  Sponsorships range from $100 to $200 annually.  Proceeds are typically directed toward political contributions to Republican candidates in general elections; however, participants can choose an option for their sponsorship funds to be directed to Caring for America projects.

The SRW Patron Program is aimed at raising funds for Star Republican Women's Caring for America and/or Literacy Programs.  For a contribution of $100, an individual can be recognized as a SRW Patron in our newsletter, our website and at our meetings.

Our first 2018 SRW Sponsor is Dr. Donald Jung, a veterinarian and owner of Highland Lakes Veterinary Clinic in Marble Falls.  (Photo to Left) Dr. Jung greets SRW member JoAnn McCarty and her Papillion "Katie."  Dr. Jung is a SRW 2018 Gold Sponsor and has designated that his contribution go to SRW's Caring for America project to benefit Patriot Paws.

Richard Owen, candidate for Justice of the Peace Precinct 2, became the first SRW 2018 Bronze Sponsor.

Our first 2018 SRW Patrons are:  Gennie Ward, Kathy Hussey and Mary Lou Kromer.

If you want to participate as a Patron or Sponsor, please click on the link below for additional information.  We welcome you recruiting others to participating in these programs as well.
