Autumn 2017

"

“When we give cheerfully and accept gratefully, everyone is blessed.” -Maya Angelou

Happy Autumn!

The holidays are now approaching as the winds of change have brought another seasonal shift. Here in Northern California we are recovering from the tragic wild fires and learning to come together in new ways. It's been a time of hardship for many, but also a profound opportunity to connect and express gratitude to those we love and for what we do have.

To a lot of us the colder months mean a time to turn inward again and withdraw slightly from the outer world. In Ayurveda, it's a time to increase grounding, warming foods and spices and incorporate practices that balance the cold and dry weather. However versed or not in these practices, most of us can agree that one of the best parts of this time of year is that it's soup season :). So, I've included one of my favorite Butternut Squash Soup recipes below to be enjoyed and shared with others!

Also, listed below are some new offerings and classes this fall. If you want to check out photos from our Riverside Wellness retreat in Montana earlier this month take a look here, as there'll be more retreats like this coming up next year.

Wherever you are, and however you are, may this autumn bring you the best kind of comfort and joy possible.

Be Well,

Camina

Ayurvedic Consultations & Cooking Classes

Support your health through this seasonal shift!

Ayurveda teaches us to live in harmony with nature and adjust our diet and lifestyle practices as the environment around us changes through the cycles of the year. We are most vulnerable when moving from one season to the next so with increased awareness of our constitutional tendencies we can truly care for the needs of our body, mind, & spirit.

Sign up for an Initial Consultation or pair your session with hands on Ayurvedic cooking instruction or meal delivery.

In-Home Yoga Sessions

Enjoy the guidance of yoga and meditation in your own home.

Private instruction can help to deepen your practice and sustain a regular routine of self-care. If you're wanting one-on-one support consider weekly or bi-weekly sessions designed just for you!

AYURVEDIC RECIPE

Butternut Squash Soup  |   Serves 6

This recipe is from one of my favorite cookbooks, '7 Center's Ayurvedic Cookbook' compiled by Ayurvedic Chef, Mira Murphy. You can use other varieties of squash or even pumpkin to add more seasonal flare. Enjoy!

Picture
  • Ghee
  • 2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • few pinches cayenne
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1/2 Tbsp fresh ginger root (peeled and grated or diced)
  • 1 medium sized butternut squash (peeled and cubbed).
  • 2 yams, chopped into bite sized cubes
  • 6 cups vegetable stock (homemade preferred), or water
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp succanut
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin seeds

Cover the bottom of your pot with ghee and warm until melted. Add garam masala, nutmeg, cayenne, turmeric and fresh ginger and warm until fragrant (be careful not to burn the spices). Add the cubed squash and yams and stir until coated with ghee/spice mixture. Add the stock or water and bring to a boil. Simmer until the vegetables are soft. Meanwhile place the pumpkin seeds in a pan and heat until they become golden. Blend the soup with a hand blender or transfer in small batches into a blender. Serve hot and garnish each bowl with roasted pumpkin seeds and fresh parsley.
