SUPPORTING THE CHURCH FINANCIALLY
Picture

We are now four weeks into this quite unsettling world where churches remain closed and people are required, for very good reason, to stay at home. This situation is impacting all of us in different ways.

For All Saints it is having a significant financial impact.
About half of the income for All Saints' mission and ministry activities come from: i. hall and room hire, ii. fundraising events (such as the quarterly coffee and craft events, iii. as well weekly collection plate gifts. None of which are able to happen at present. This is roughly the equivalent to £512 a week loss. During the course of the COVID outbreak we have seen a reduction in income of 41%

If you normally donate cash or cheques using the weekly collection or numbered envelopes, we would love for you to keep up your regular support. But please would you now seriously consider making future donations through the Parish Giving Scheme. You can now register on their website https://register.parishgiving.org.uk/  or if you prefer you can set up a standing order? Covid-19 precautions mean that it is no longer practical for us to accept cash or cheques.

If you would like to setup a standing order please use the following details

Account name:        All Saints Church Highertown PCC.

Bank:                      Lloyds Bank, Boscawen Street,  Truro

Sort Code:              77 - 09 -12

Account number:     2 9 4 1 9 2 6 0

If during this time you would like to make a one off gift to the church you may wish to use our Justgiving service by giving online using a debit/credit card or paypal account. Click on the link here to give to the church in this way.

Supporting Good mental health

The Church of England have produced a series of reflections on how to cope with anxiety and loneliness in the face of the coronavirus pandemic, including simple Christian meditation techniques. The third is a reflection on where God is in the struggles.

Jacob was left alone; and a man wrestled with him until day-break.

Genesis 32:24

It has been said that if you cannot stand your own company when alone, you should not impose it on other people! Perhaps this is unfair? Some of us (especially the extroverts) only really get to know ourselves in company with others. However, isolation does have a way of confronting us with some of the things that we try to avoid. We say that our “demons” haunt us in a sleepless night, but sometimes it is God who haunts us in our solitude. Read more...

CLERGY AND READERS FROM ACROSS THE DIOCESE OF TRURO REAFFIRM THEIR VOWS – VIA VIDEO CONFERENCE!

The Maundy Thursday Chrism service scheduled to be held in Truro Cathedral today was, of course, postponed.

But while the diocese’s clergy and readers could not be anointed in person, those who were able did the next best thing and joined a video conferencing service during which they reaffirmed their vows.

Around 170 clergy and readers joined the event, from all around the diocese - including our own Janette, Lydia and Jeremy.

Bishop Philip said: “We are each called to dig deep at a time such as this, and I certainly found it helpful and uplifting to reaffirm my vows in fellowship with so many wonderful and committed people.”

Morning Prayer

Each day Jeremy at All Saints Vicarage, and Janette at her Epiphany House residence will keep morning prayer. If you would like to join with us from home you can use the common worship website for the words and readings. Click Here

Shortened version of morning prayer will also be available as an audio recording each day by dialing into our dedicated phoneline 01872 306996. Phone and hear the daily readings, and call again on a Sunday and Saturday for the weekly sermon.

Items for prayer this week

  • Please pray for the volunteers and users of the Foodbank and Acts 435 both services are receiving increased requests at this time.
  • Pray for staff and patients at Treliske and other hospitals. Staff desperately need more and better protective clothing and coronavirus testing.
  • Pray for children who are living in lockdown in potentially unsafe situations. For children who have previously experienced loss and trauma and are now struggling to adjust and understand new routines. For children whose plans have been delayed or disrupted by this changing landscape.
  • For social workers who are having to work in difficult circumstances and particularly those who face hugely complex decisions. For local authorities who are struggling to find new foster carers and adoptive parents at a time when many people are putting big decisions on hold.
  • Pray for those in prisons, detention centres and refugee camps around the world who are desperately vulnerable to coronavirus and have very little if any protection.
  • Pray for homeless people and those who care for them, especially St Petroc's staff.
  • Pray for all those experiencing bereavement and not able to grieve in the normal way at funerals at the moment and clergy not able to care for families in the way they would wish at this time.
  • Pray for the family of Arthur Burge whose funeral took place on Monday 6th April.
  • Pray for the Pastoral Team as they stay in touch with members of our community and attend to those in the local area with particular needs.
  • Pray for the Lifehouse Project Team and for those team members who have recently been furloughed. Pray for funding decisions being made by Laing Family Trusts, and the Joseph Rank Trust this coming week and the week after.
  • Pray for our new team of Community Comforters - Roger, Diana, Lynne, Jill, John, Anna, Magda, Mary, Martyn, Moyra, Gyl, Lindsey, and Karen. This team have volunteered to respond to particular requests made by some of the more isolated and vulnerable members of our local community.

STAYING WELL NHS.UK

Everyone must stay at home to help stop the spread of coronavirus.

You should only leave the house for 1 of 4 reasons:

  • shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible
  • one form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with members of your household
  • any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person
  • travelling to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home

Looking after your wellbeing

To help yourself stay well while you're at home:

  • stay in touch with family and friends over the phone or on social media
  • try to keep yourself busy – you could try activities like cooking, reading, online learning and watching films
  • do light exercise at home, or outside once a day
