NEW OFFERINGS + SUMMER PRODUCE

It is always fun for me to seek out new and interesting items that not only support other small businesses, but are also sustainably made, support a purposeful lifestyle, and meet the basic grocery/household needs of all of us. We are constantly adding new products to our selection at the market and I wanted to draw your attention to some of our newest additions.

BANNER BUTTER

Small-batch Banner Butter (Atlanta, GA), is made with slow-cultured cream and no added flavorings. Banner Butter strictly uses cream from grass-fed Georgia cows that are never treated with hormones. Higher in butterfat than most other butters, they also allow their butter to ripen before churning allowing good bacteria to form. We have started off with their Roasted Garlic, Basil & Parsley butter and look forward to adding more flavors.

COMPOSTABLE TRASH BAGS

Repurpose (Los Angeles, CA) trash bags are 100% compostable as they are made from renewable materials such as corn, wood pulp and sugar cane. Their products are made using fewer greenhouse gases and no toxic chemicals compared to their plastic counterparts! Their "products emit 80% less CO2 into the atmosphere, require up to 60% less water to manufacture, and use 52% less energy to produce than plastics," and they naturally biodegrade - unlike plastic trash bags.

HIMALAYAN SALT LAMPS

Nature's Artifacts (Ontario, Canada) sustainably and responsibly source authentic Himalayan salt to create all of their salt lamps. Benefits: attract water molecules + absorb harmful chemicals; reduce allergy + asthma symptoms by removing agitating particles in the air; help neutralize electromagnetic radiation from electrical devices to reduce stress levels + improve sleep quality; and reduce static electricity.

ORGANIC BALSAMIC GLAZE + BURRATA

There is nothing that screams "summer!" more than a fresh caprese salad. We are thrilled to have found Kensington Food Co.'s (Philadelphia, PA) organic balsamic glaze, and Siano's (Charlotte, NC) grass-fed burrata cheese. These two pair perfectly over some heirloom tomatoes and fresh basil. We have the balsamic glaze in stock, and the burrata will arrive Friday morning.

NOBULL BURGERS

NoBull (Charlottesville, VA) truly makes veggie burgers. They skip all of the unhealthy fats and oils that meat substitutes typically include, and opt for clean simple ingredients. No lab-made meat here, folks. Just pure veggies and herbs to give you a healthy protein substitute that is packed with flavor.

WEEKLY SPECIAL

This week we are featuring Garnet Gals Small Batch Jams (Andrews, NC). Andrea and Megan, a mother-daughter team, make delicious jams, jellies, and marmalades using local fruit, herbs, and all natural ingredients! A couple years ago, they even used figs from Kim Bradford's trees here on the farm to make their Fig Lemon Rosemary preserves. I absolutely love every one of their creations, but my favorites are the Plum Cardamom and Peach Chipotle. Enjoy 20% OFF all Garnet Gals products this week only.

Fact of the Week: What is IPM? IPM stands for "Integrated Pest Management." This is the approach that most farms use instead of spraying entire fields/crops with pesticides and/or herbicides. IPM is "based on careful monitoring, prevention, and cautious treatment of problems as they arise. It is a process farmers use to solve pest problems while minimizing risks to people and the environment...focuses on long-term prevention of pests...and (as a last resort) chemical controls)." Companion planting and "trap crops" are often used in IPM gardening/farming.

During a walk on a trip to Florida a couple years ago, we found some wild orange trees. The fruit was a bit too tart for eating, but Frank had fun shaking them from the tree.

By shopping with us, you are supporting your local farmers, artisans, and the economy.

We thank you.
