Wernhil Park was Windhoek’s first mall when it opened in 1990. Several extensions have been added through the years, with the latest phase, extension 4, officially opened by His Excellency, President Hage Geingob, on 4 June 2019.  With a total investment of just over half a billion Namibian Dollars, the park now offers an even greater variety of choice and convenience for the CBD shopper.

Team dB’s Senior AV Technician, Rubben Mabuku, was asked to be a speaker at the Hashtag Festival’s Career Exhibition from 5 to 8 June.

“My topic was Passion for your Career. It’s a very easy topic for me because I am truly passionate about what I do.  Many young people do not want to take up traditional jobs, but they don’t know about other exciting opportunities out there – like being an event technician”.  (Pictures: Cloe Durr)

As part of our belief in the bigger picture of technical live events for Namibia, our Senior Lighting Technician, Gillroy Barmann, has been coaching Manfred (Meno) Isaaks, a young Namibian lighting technician with exciting potential. Meno is the in-house lighting technician at Windhoek’s Warehouse Theatre. Gillroy proposed and motived a detailed plan towards Meno’s exposure by sending him on a 2-day Theatre Lighting Workshop presented by DWR in Johannesburg during June.

“I am very thankful for the opportunity and have already started implementing what I’ve learned,” enthuses Meno.

Our in-house IT Technician, Martin Nangolo, attended a one-day cyber safety course on 26 June.  “In this era of virtual and digital communication, the importance of cyber security cannot be overemphasized. What stood out for me from the training, is that it does not matter how great your security systems are, if the end-users do not have the right knowledge or awareness. Something as simple as a colleague opening a virus infected email, can send even the best security systems into chaos”.

Victor Joseph is our Sets Technician. “I was born and bred in Ohaukelo, northern Namibia, but came to Windhoek to look for work in 1997. I was lucky enough to find employment with someone who did construction and renovation work and who taught me many skills like thatching, painting, tiling and welding.  But my main love is carpentry.  I just love working with wood.  As a sets technician, I get to put all of these different skills to use in one job.  I really like that”.
