SUPPORT THE PTO & GET YOUR DIRECTORY!

The 2020-2021 directory orders are getting ready to print! Help support the PV-PTO by making a donation of $100 or more today (which will include your directory). Your financial support is a critical way to ensure that the programs that make our schools (and the PVSD community) so special continue year after year.

The cut-off for directory orders is Wednesday, September 16th!

NOW ACCEPTING COVER ART FOR THE PV SCHOOLS DIRECTORY

The Portola Valley Schools Student Directory is perhaps the highest-circulation publication of local origin, and its release each fall is surrounded with considerable excitement and glamour. It's an invaluable local resource, highlighting the generosity and diversity of local businesses, providing essential information on our schools, and enabling the social lives of our children.

We like to feature the work of an up-and-coming local artist on the cover. We are inviting Ormondale and Corte Madera Students, from rising kindergartners through emerging eighth graders, to send in their cover designs. We'll choose one to be this year's cover. The winner's family will receive a complimentary copy of the directory, suitable for autographing.

The cover format is standard letter size, 8.5" x 11", portrait orientation, in color.

Please send entries to judy.gilbert@gmail.com by Friday, September 11th.

Please include the artist's name, grade level for the upcoming school year, and parent's name.

PVSD FACE COVERINGS

A HUGE thank you to Amanda Smoot and Sarah Vincenzo for all their work on the custom spirit wear face coverings for both Ormonale and Corte Madera Schools. Use the blank white space on the front to write-in your child’s name.

Peaceful Parents, Happy Kids

Thurs Sept 17, 4:00pm-5:15pm Registration Link Coming Soon

Does the added stress of being at home bring added battles with your child? Do you wish you knew how to get cooperation without yelling and threats? Are you trying to find the sweet spot between spoiling and strict? No one is prepared to parent through a pandemic. As school starts, and we are all still at home, fostering cooperation and learning independence are more important than ever. Clinical psychologist Dr. Laura Markham helps parents shift away from control and manipulation to practical strategies for raising children who WANT to cooperate. She helps parents create a more peaceful home where affection, connection and humor help resolve conflict happily, and where kids WANT to follow our lead.

*This year, the PTO has paid for PVSD membership in the Common Ground Speaker Series, which presents distinguished speakers in education, parenting and health at venues across the San Francisco Peninsula. Their 2020-2021 Series will take place live online. Parents, faculty, and staff of member schools attend Common Ground events free of charge. View the Common Ground Fall 2020 Slate click HERE.

FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT @ HOME

Each child received a packet of popcorn and a treat from the PTO at the school supply pick-up. We’d love for the community to enjoy a family movie night at home!

Does your child have a favorite movie to recommend? Have them submit a movie review! We will pick one movie review from each of the following three age groups TK-2, 3-5, and 6-8 to feature in the September 13th edition of PTO Weekly. Featured movie reviews will win a $10 Amazon gift card. All other movie reviews will be listed on the PTO website. Movies rated G or PG only please. Fill out the form HERE

ORMONDALE News

PTO thank you

THANK YOU to Linda Kamran and Kit Antovich for helping with recruiting a terrific set of HRP Volunteers for this school year!

A RECIPE FROM MS. HOVLAND

Mrs. Hovland shared a recipe with the TK/Kinder students for their first meeting ‘‘Pancakes with the Principle’. The recipe was such a big hit (and so easy) that we just had to share it with everyone. And the best part: no standing over the pan flipping pancakes.  Enjoy!

Ms. Hovland's Lazy Pancakes

2 cups all purpose flour

2 cups buttermilk (if you don't have buttermilk substitute 2 cups milk and add 2 tbsp. white vinegar or 2 tbsp. lemon juice)

2 eggs

1/4 cup sugar

2 tbsp. melted butter

1 tsp. baking soda

2 tsp. baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1 cup berries or your own favorite topping

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and spray a 9x13' pan with nonstick cooking spray.  Set aside.

In a medium bowl whisk the buttermilk, eggs and melted butter until well combined.  In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.  Add the wet ingredients and stir until combined.  Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.  Place your favorite topping on top.

Bake until golden, about 12-15 minutes.  Remove from the oven, cut into squares and serve with syrup or jam.
