Happy Monday, Ranger Families!

I waited to put this update together so I could tell you all about last week...our  Ranger Week of GIVING! We held both a coat/winter gear drive and our first Ranger’s GIVE Kids’ Gift Fair. It was SO MUCH FUN and it was very special to see our Rangers thinking about others as they purchased their gifts. A huge thanks goes out to the parents who organized this event and volunteered throughout the week! Also, your donations of cold-weather items will be brought to Sherwood Park Global Studies Academy this week. Thank you for your generosity!

We’ll continue to focus on giving and service to others at our Winter Celebrations, December 21, 2:30-3:30. This year we are partnering with Hand2Hand, a local organization that provides weekend meals and snacks for kids facing food insecurity. These are students who rely on their schools to provide breakfast and lunch, so weekends and school breaks can be very stressful for these children. We’ll be collecting snack and breakfast items and will package them during the class celebrations as an all-school service project. Our goal is to provide a total of 1000 snack and breakfast packs! Watch for information and sign ups from your Head Room Parents. Thank you in advance for your help with this important service project.

You are ALL invited to the PTO Meeting next Tuesday, December 11 at 2:30pm in the Media Center.  I have a big confession….I was one of those parents who loved to help at school but never went to a PTO meeting before I agreed to join the PTO board last year! I always thought those meetings were for other parents- the “PTO-type parents”- and certainly not for me. Ha! I share my confession because I know there are a lot of you who can relate and I want to encourage you to COME and see what these meetings are about. You’ll hear an update from Principal James, our teacher representative, Mr. Kornoely, and several PTO committee chairs. This meeting will also feature Mrs. Wittland, our school counselor, who will be talking about PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support) and explaining things you might be hearing about at home like “majors”, “minors”, “tickets” and “Rangers of the Week”. We will also introduce the 4th grade students behind PINE LINES, the Pine Ridge student newsletter! This is going to be a great meeting! Remember, all PTO meetings are family friendly and little ones are welcome. Light refreshments will be provided. Looking forward to seeing you there!
