A complimentary light lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. followed by the program starting at 1:00 p.m. The Texas Freedom Caucus was founded in the Texas House of Representatives with a mission to "amplify the voice of liberty-minded, grassroots Texans who want bold action to: protect life, strengthen families, defend the U.S. and Texas Bills of Rights, restrain government, and revitalize personal and economic freedoms in the State of Texas." Issues that the Caucus will address in the 2019 Texas Legislative session include: sanctity of life; freedom of religion, speech and conscience; right to keep and bear arms; prevent illegal immigration; fiscal restraint and budget reform; education reform; public safety and criminal justice; and government and ethics reform. Prior to her current role, Teresa served as the Executive Director of Lone Star Voice, a statewide non-profit organization that educates and trains citizens to become more active in their local and state governments. For the past 15 years, she has been actively involved in the political arena serving in many volunteer capacities at the state and local levels, as well as working as a consultant for private citizens and campaigns. She has served many years as the chair of the Mitchell County Republican Party, is a past regional director of the Texas Republican County Chairman's Association and was a founding member of the Texas Conservative Grassroots Coalition. SRW Continues Project to Assist Flood Victims in Rebuilding Efforts Star Republican Women continues its partnership with the Kingsland Lions Club in raising funds to help the victims of the Fall 2018 floods in Llano and Burnet Counties. " To date, SRW has raised more than $5000 to help in this important effort," said Marsha Lovelady, outgoing chairman of SRW's Caring for America Committee and now vice president of programs. "Our initial contributions have gone to help the victims get back on their feet and meet expenses for temporary housing, increased transportation costs, food and clothing. Now our attention will turn toward helping victims rebuild their homes since many of those affected had no flood insurance." SRW and the Kingsland Lions Club recommends future contributions be either checks or gift cards from Ace Hardware, Lowes or Home Depot to help in the rebuild effort. The local Lions Club launched its efforts after receiving a major contribution from Lions Club International. A Llano County Flood Recovery Committee --under the direction of Dave Richison, a Lions Club regional director who spoke at SRW's November meeting -- continues to oversee the distribution of funds. The Committee includes Jay Ward and Llano County Commissioner Mike Sandoval, both of whom are associate members of SRW. They and other committee members conduct interviews and on-site evaluations to qualify recipients. If you want to support this important cause, make your tax deductible contributions to Kingsland Lions Club and designate for Llano County Flood Recovery Committee on the memo section of your check. Mail your checks to Star Republican Women, PO Box 8657, Horseshoe Bay, TX 78657. SRW Members Support Book Drive for CASA & Foster Children Star Republican Women members contributed more than 75 children's books to the Highland Lakes CASA organization to distribute to children in foster care. The project was led by Literacy Committee Chairman Dee Patterson and Caring for America Committee Chairman Marsha Lovelady. "We thank all those who made these important contributions to children in our area," said Dee. Dee (on right in the adjacent photo) presents the books to Shannon Heep, director of The Highland Lakes CASA organization. A HOLIDAY TRADITION Continuing its annual tradition, Star Republican Women hosted a special lunch for Horseshoe Bay Police and Fire Departments in December. SRW members participating in delivering the lunch included Carol Ascue, Charlotte Steindorf, Becca Marsh, Kathy Hussey, Debbie Lambert, Marion Gardner, Belle Guice and Marsha Lovelady. 86th Texas Legislature Calendar The 86th Texas Legislature will convene on Tuesday, January 8.
