Beckmeyer to Speak January 15

Teresa Beckmeyer, Director of Grassroots Engagement for the Texas Freedom Caucus, will speak at Star Republican Women's next meeting, Tuesday, January 15 at Quail Point Community Center.

A complimentary light lunch will be served at 12:30 p.m. followed by the program starting at 1:00 p.m.

The Texas Freedom Caucus was founded in the Texas House of Representatives with a mission to "amplify the voice of liberty-minded, grassroots Texans who want bold action to:  protect life, strengthen families, defend the U.S. and Texas Bills of Rights, restrain government, and revitalize personal and economic freedoms in the State of Texas."

Issues that the Caucus will address in the 2019 Texas Legislative session include:  sanctity of life; freedom of religion, speech and conscience; right to keep and bear arms; prevent illegal immigration; fiscal restraint and budget reform; education reform; public safety and criminal justice; and government and ethics reform.

Prior to her current role, Teresa served as the Executive Director of Lone Star Voice, a statewide non-profit organization that educates and trains citizens to become more active in their local and state governments.

For the past 15 years, she has been actively involved in the political arena serving in many volunteer capacities at the state and local levels, as well as working as a consultant for private citizens and campaigns.

She has served many years as the chair of the Mitchell County Republican Party, is a past regional director of the Texas Republican County Chairman's Association and was a founding member of the Texas Conservative Grassroots Coalition.

Star Republican Women members, associates and guests are welcome.

Marsha Lovelady, VP of  Programs

Happy New Year!

I hope that if you haven’t already done so, you will include in your 2019 New Year’s Resolutions to actively participate in Star Republican Women and really get involved this year.

Of course, the first order of business for this Resolution is to renew your membership if you haven’t already.  Current dues are for November 2018 through October 2019.

There also are many activities and service opportunities (for both women and men) in which to involve yourself that allow us to promote the conservative values and principles of the Republican Party to Keep Texas Red.  And our goal is to always have fun doing it!

After seeing what happened in the mid-term elections in November, we have our work cut out for us to make sure that we don’t lose any more ground and regain offices where we lost ground.  The 2020 Election seems in the distant future, but the groundwork needs to begin right now.

We have a new slate of Officers and Board members that are excited to begin working on projects through their committees and they can’t do it without your help.  Listed below are the Committees in which you might have an interest and Chairs you can contact to volunteer your participation:

Campaign Activities – Barbara Derse

Legislation – Denise Wolfs

Public Relations – Mary Lou Kromer

Parliamentarian/Bylaws – Belle Guice

Hospitality – Carol Ascue

Ways and Means – Marion Gardner [Need co-chairs for this committee]

Caring for America – Becca Marsh

Chaplain - Gennie Ward

Your new Officers for 2019-2020 are:

Denise Rives – President

Marsha Lovelady – Vice President, Programs

Kathy Stahl – Vice President, Membership

Secretary – Debbie Lambert

Treasurer – Charlotte Steindof

It is such an honor and a privilege to serve as your president.  Please feel free to contact me with ideas, suggestions, comments, or questions.  I look forward to working with you to maintain our Christian, conservative principles upon which this nation and the great State of Texas were founded.

Denise Rives, SRW President

SRW Continues Project to Assist

Flood Victims in Rebuilding Efforts

Star Republican Women continues its partnership with the Kingsland Lions Club in raising funds to help the victims of the Fall 2018 floods in Llano and Burnet Counties.

"To date, SRW has raised more than $5000 to help in this important effort," said Marsha Lovelady, outgoing chairman of SRW's Caring for America Committee and now vice president of programs.  "Our initial contributions have gone to help the victims get back on their feet and meet expenses for temporary housing, increased transportation costs, food and clothing.  Now our attention will turn toward helping  victims rebuild their homes since many of those affected had no flood insurance."

SRW and the Kingsland Lions Club recommends future contributions be either checks or gift cards from Ace Hardware, Lowes or Home Depot to help in the rebuild effort.

The local Lions Club launched its efforts after receiving a major contribution from Lions Club International.  A Llano County Flood Recovery Committee --under the direction of Dave Richison, a Lions Club regional director who spoke at SRW's November meeting -- continues to oversee the distribution of funds.  The Committee includes  Jay Ward and Llano County Commissioner Mike Sandoval, both of whom are associate members of SRW.  They and other committee members conduct interviews and on-site evaluations to qualify recipients.

If you want to support this important cause, make your tax deductible contributions to Kingsland Lions Club and designate for Llano County Flood Recovery Committee on the memo section of your check.  Mail your checks to Star Republican Women, PO Box 8657, Horseshoe Bay, TX 78657.

SRW Members Support Book Drive  for CASA & Foster Children

Star Republican Women members contributed more than 75 children's books to the Highland Lakes CASA organization to distribute to children in foster care.  The project was led by Literacy Committee Chairman Dee Patterson and Caring for America Committee Chairman Marsha Lovelady.

"We thank all those who made these important contributions to children in our area," said Dee.

Dee (on right in the adjacent photo) presents the books to Shannon Heep, director of The Highland Lakes CASA organization.

Continuing its annual tradition, Star Republican Women hosted a special lunch for Horseshoe Bay Police and Fire Departments in December.  SRW members participating in delivering the lunch included Carol Ascue, Charlotte Steindorf, Becca Marsh, Kathy Hussey, Debbie Lambert, Marion Gardner, Belle Guice and Marsha Lovelady.
