April 2017: Session 5

Graduation Day is Coming Soon!

Although the last day of school may be the one most beloved by the students of TNCA, the next to last day might be the most important for the adults of the school, both teachers and parents. On Thursday, June 1, we invite all TNCA families to join us for the afternoon to celebrate our community and your kids. First, we start with a catered picnic-style lunch.

After some time to socialize and play, we start our "Moving Up Ceremony," which recognizes students graduating from Kindergarten, 2nd grade, 5th grade, and 8th grade. At TNCA, moving up to a new classroom (or a new school) is a big deal, and we think it's important to take a few moments to celebrate this achievement.

And finally, we end the day with a long-standing TNCA tradition, the talent show! Our students take this show very seriously, spending weeks (sometimes months!) preparing their acts. We've had everything from music to magic, with plenty of comedy routines and tae kwon do demonstrations as well. A couple of weeks before the show, Ms. Katherine will start working with kids who are interested in performing in order to help them decide on an act, find music and costumes, and rehearse together.

Please remember to reserve the afternoon of June 1st on your calendar now!

For our final field trip of the year, our students in K4-5th will visit the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education. We have been there in past years, and it is a GREAT field trip! This is a full-day trip, with a guided nature walk, a visit to the small museum, a picnic lunch, and educational games and programs about the fish hatchery located there and the wildlife of Pisgah Forest. A Medieval Kids Faire

Picture

As I'm sure you have heard by now, we are in full swing in planning our Medieval Kids Faire fundraiser! We have secured full sponsorship from Thirsty Monk, French Broad Chocolates, and Mountain Xpress, as well mini-sponsorship from a number of businesses owned by TNCA families. We cannot think you enough for your support of this fundraiser. Hopefully we'll exceed our expectations in terms of the money raised!

We have full-color fliers of the ad above that is running in the Mountain Xpress. Please let us know if you have somewhere you can post the ad - another school, a business, a community space - and we will happily give you copies!

And please spread the word to friends with kids about this event!

Music + Aerial Dance

Picture

TNCA parents Bridget and Brian Felix have an exciting event planned for Friday, May 12, with proceeds benefiting The New Classical Academy!

"Music + Aerial Dance will feature new (and old) original music by UNC Asheville Music Professor and OM Trio alum Brian Felix with choreography and aerial dance by Bridget Felix.

Brian will be playing keyboards along with an all star cast of Mike Barnes (guitar), Bill Berg (drums) and Ben Bjorlie (bass). Bridget and guest aerialists Laura Maria, Lauren Napoli (and more!) will be performing original choregraphy with a number of Brian's pieces."

The event will be at Toy Boat Community Art Space, at 101 Fairview Rd. Tickets can be purchased here: https://felix2.eventbrite.com/

Doors will open at 6:30, and the show begins at 7! We hope to see you there!
