Baking and delivering this week!

Hello Folks.

You can review my baking schedule on my website: http://www.tomspantry.ca/.

I will bake this Friday August 21st for pick up at my home on Friday evening.

I will attend the Vankleek Hill Farmers Market this Saturday August 22nd from 9.30am to 12.30 pm. We welcome pre-orders and public browsing. Also join us for some live music.

I will deliver to homes on my trip on Saturday to Vankleek Hill. I will travel through Crysler, Limoges, Casselman and St-Isidore on the way there in the early morning. In the afternoon, I will return home through Alexandria and Maxville. If there is enough demand, I can also loop through Cornwall and area on my trip home.

In addition, I can have bread with me during my visit to Chesterville on Saturday evening.

I need your order please by Thursday evening 8pm in order to prepare enough levain overnight. See the product descriptions and ordering considerations here. And then, view the price list and order online with Local Line

Next week, August 27th, I will be at the Parkdale Farmers Market in Ottawa and I will perform home deliveries in Ottawa and in the region west of Berwick.

There is a minimum order of two loaves for a home delivery on a scheduled route.

Take advantage of my organic flours and baking ingredients, also available in the virtual store.

Sausages and leadership!

When you are visiting the Vankleek Hill Farmers Market this Saturday, please say hello to Aartje den Boer at Pickle Patch Farm. Besides being the market president in Vankleek Hill, Aartje is the recently elected chair of Farmers Markets of OntarioFMO is the primary information resource in Ontario for market managers, vendors, and consumers. Thank you Aartje for all your work

Most importantly, Pickle Patch farm is a certified organic producer of Tamworth pork, lamb, turkey and chicken, all raised sustainably on the farm. I am a particular fan of Aartje's sausages and breakfast patties.

New in August

With the recent garlic harvest, I am introducing a new product - a garlic and black olive Fougasse. The garlic comes from Paperboat Farms in Newington.

Fougasse is the kind of bread that you tear apart by hand and eat it as is, as a snack or appetizer, preferably with red wine from my friends at Stone Crop Acres near Morrisburg.

The French Fougasse compares in may ways to the Italian Focaccia. The goal in the Fougasse is to increase the amount of crust. Like eating a pizza, the good part is the crunchy crust on the edge. The Fougasse is a social bread, just made to be torn in a group meal, then ripped and dunked in butter or olive oil.

Order your Fougasse to reserve them for market pickup or home delivery.

The Bicycle, come rain or shine!

This past Sunday, Isabelle and I explored the bike path along the north shore of the Ottawa River from the Champlain bridge to the Aylmer Marina. We parked near the Carling exit off the Queensway and rode the beautiful Island Park Drive to the Champlain bridge.

The bike path is lovely, mostly isolated from traffic and buildings by the vast green space lining the Ottawa River.  We enjoyed the many observation points over the river. The trip out was hot and sunny. But the trip back was in pouring rain. It rained so hard that we drank rainwater as we peddled.
