Civil Air Patrol Sugar Valley Composite Squadron Color Guard: Veronica Martinez, Isaiah Soto, Addison Hamilton and Jacob Chan

The DRI Award Ceremony began with the presentation of the Colors by the Sugar Valley Composite Squadron Color Guard. This team participated not only to present the Colors for the ceremony but to receive their own certificate and check for becoming only the second ever group to be chosen as Ambassadors of Respect! Their respect project is to offer the presentation of Colors for various ceremonies in the community including for veteran's groups and funerals as a way to honor our Country by carrying the United States Flag.

Davie County Manager, Brian Barnett, continued with the ceremony by presenting each of the awardees with their certificates, a hand-crafted wooden "Respect Matters" medallion and a check for $1000.

Ellie Prillaman had the idea that she could show respect by reaching out to those who might be ignored or forgotten. She came up with a project of creating 10 large colorful splatter paintings and distributing them to residents at Davie Place Nursing Home. She plans to also spend time with each person she gives one to in order to get to know them and

show them that she cares about them.

Reagan Brooks' parents are both teachers. As a result of having spent more time around schools than many, she observed that the kids with neuro-divergence tended to have classrooms separate from those of their schoolmates. Reagan has had a mission throughout her time in high school to include these kids in as many ways as she can. One way has been through bringing their dance group, The Soaring Eagles, together with the school's dance team once a week. Through this experience, Reagan has been inspired to help ensure that "all people living with neurodivergence feel comfortable in their skin and know that they are loved, seen and heard."

The DRI team is so glad to have all of these inspiring young people joining the ranks of the Ambassadors of Respect! The future is looking bright!

On the balmy evening of Sunday November 6th, DRI Ambassadors of Respect came together with the clients and staff of Impact of the Piedmont (formerly Milling Manor) to have a fun cookout with games and later... dancing! Dancing was a BIG hit and nearly everyone got up and had a ball dancing the night away ending in a Conga Line around the room! A special and FUN evening for everyone! It was so fun, in fact, that plans were made to do it again!

DRI Invited to Speak in Mocksville

Representatives of DRI were invited to present at The Town of Mocksville Board of Commissioners Meeting on November 1st. Kaylee Lewis, an Ambassador of Respect, spoke about the benefits of being part of the Davie Respect Initiative including getting to know likeminded young people who are respectful and care about our community.  Sustainability and Environmental Awareness are a passion for Kaylee.  Her winning idea was to take pictures all around Davie County including some hidden gems: murals, old churches, railroad tracks…Through posting these pictures, she hopes that people will have more respect and appreciation for the beauty in Davie County and want to take better care of our community.

Savannah Ivey, an Ambassador of Respect since 2018, shared about her project: how to respond respectfully during medical emergencies.  She has talked to many first responders as well as law enforcement officers and created a very helpful and practical Power Point presentation to share with the public.  Savannah has also taken on leadership roles within the DRI becoming a volunteer panelist and working with Social Media.

Julia Burazer introduced the two ladies and shared how the Davie Respect Initiative got started. Thank You to Ken Gamble, Will Marklin and the members of the Town Board for inviting DRI to share.
