Cub Scout Pack 2269

Eagle Robotics had the opportunity to host a robotics workshop with Cub Scout pack 2269 on October 29th. The Cub Scouts were eager to learn about basic programming principles, careers in engineering, CAD and 3D printing, and industrial robots including a presentation of the Baxter robots through a rotation of various stations presented by the Eagle Robotics team members. The Cub Scouts were even able to drive some robots on the field!

Win-Tech, Inc.

Teams 7373 and 11364 were able to visit Win-Tech, Inc. to celebrate Manufacturing Day. They had the opportunity to learn about different aspects of precision machining, manufacturing, and even talked to representatives from Kennesaw State University's School of Engineering Technology, Georgia Trade School, and Georgia Apartment Association. Thank you, Allison, Dennis, representatives, and everyone at Win-Tech, Inc.!

STEMinar 1

Mount Paran Christian School’s new STEMinar lecture series kicked off with Dr. Leigh Hamby, Chief Medical Officer of Piedmont Healthcare. Team members from 11364 and 7373 were honored to be able to attend and learn about the blessings and challenges of being a Christian in a STEM career. Thank you, Dr. Hamby!

Ridenour Adventure Center

On November 15, both Eagle Robotics teams went to the Walton Ridenour Adventure Center, an after-school enrichment program, to introduce the children there to the wide field of STEM. Spread throughout various “stations”, team members taught the kids about STEM careers, programming and the benefits of factory automation, while also giving kids the chance to drive our outreach robots. We hope that we made an impact on these kids as they continue to discover all the opportunities available to them in the world!

Results from Meets 2, 3, and 4

11364 Diamond Plate

Picture

Team 11364 performed very well in meets 2, 3, and 4. Team 11364 remains in 1st place in the Etowah league and is happy with their performance so far this season. To improve their robot, team 11364 hopes to add an intake system to their robot to increase the number of points that they can get. Although 11364 has performed well, they recognize that they could not be where they are now without guidance from their coaches and mentors.

7373 Carbon Fiber

Picture

On November 10, Eagle Robotics participated in Etowah League meets 2 and 3. These meets had a judging session beforehand which went very well. During the meet, their robot performance improved significantly, with a new aluminum hook. Their color sensors proved inconsistent in determining the color of objects, but the problem was later fixed by using TensorFlow, an open source machine code learning framework, to autonomously identify objects using the onboard camera in the phone. This allowed 7373 to perform very well in Meet 4 on December 1. They won 4 out of 5 matches and are now in 5th place. With a strong base, a good drive team, and powerful autonomous programming, our robot has reached great achievements.

Upcoming January Tournament

Save the Date!  On January 26, 2019, Eagle Robotics and Mount Paran Christian School will be hosting and competing in the FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics League Tournament. Teams will participate in a robot competition and judging interview, and present their engineering notebooks. Every team present at the tournament will be vying for a spot in the Georgia State Championship. Mount Paran and the Eagle Robotics program are proud to host these 39 teams as they attempt to earn a spot in the state tournament.

Volunteers - The Life Blood of the League

We need your help for the League Tournament!

FIRST Tech Challenge and the Etowah League exist entirely on volunteer support. Without it, the league simply will not exist. Each team is requested to provide a volunteer for each meet. Much more help is needed for the League Tournament. Some volunteer roles are technical in nature, others are not. Most volunteer roles require online registration and online training.  A volunteer role can be filled by anyone willing to take the time to learn what to do. It can be a parent, relative or sponsor. Our team likes to lead by example. Please take a few minutes and click here to find out what is needed to volunteer. Thank you for your support!
