Dear 2019 Ridgewood Crew Team!

RC forms and fee for the spring season are now overdue. Links to the forms can be found below. Please submit them ASAP to Ann Hida; 373 Shelbourne Ter.

Mandatory practice starts tomorrow, Monday, January 7; 5:30pm. Practices will be Monday - Friday 5:30-7:30pm and Saturday (time TBD; announced this week) at the RHS Cafeteria.   Please note that all rowers who are participating in a winter RHS sport will join the team once their winter sport is over.

There will be a mandatory Team Meeting on Thursday, January 19 at 7:30 PM in the RHS Campus Center.  One parent/guardian plus the rower must be in attendance as there will be lots of information reviewed, apparel/unisuit sizing forms, Row-A-Thon fundraising information, volunteer opportunities, etc.

Just a reminder that there will be no practice on MLK day (1/21). West Point Tanks practices are January 13 and January 27. Details below. February break (2/15, 2/16, 2/18, 2/19) will have optional practices (mandatory if attending CRASH Bs and make ups); mandatory practices will resume on Wednesday, February 20.

The “On-The-Water” schedule will be coming soon; please note that all rowers will practice Tues – Sunday until regatta season begins.  The first regatta is slated for March 31, 2019.  Rowers are off on Mondays so please schedule tutoring, doctor’s appointments, etc. accordingly.

Our first regatta of the season is The Don Bosco Ironmen Classic will be held on Saturday, January 26 at Don Bosco in Ramsey; more details to come.  In order to participate in the spring regattas, every rower must complete the US Rowing online waiver. RC pays for each rowers' US Rowing basic membership. You should have received an email with the member ID and instructions to sign the waiver. Instructions are below.

  • Please click on:  https://membership.usrowing.org/
  • Go to “individual”, “members”, and once you hover the mouse over “members”, it will drop down and the 2nd option is “sign your waiver”.
  • Please type your member number (as indicated in the email you rec’d from US Rowing) and your password.
  • If you cannot remember your membership number, you can click on the 'Forgot My Member Number' and with the rowers name, birthdate, and email.
  • You may be instructed to answer 4 rowing-related questions (don’t worry – if you get them wrong you can still get to the waiver!).
  • After you answer the questions, you’ll sign the waiver.
  • If you are new to Ridgewood Crew, you’ll input your member ID and then click “forgot password” and an email will be sent with instructions on how to reset your password.
  • Once you’ve done this, you can go back and complete the waiver process.
  • Additional information regarding the waiver can be found here:http://www.usrowing.org/sign-a-waiver/

A FEW THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT VISITING WEST POINT:

West Point is a restricted military post.  You will travel through at least one and possibly two security checkpoints.  These are no big deal and automobile inspections are pretty quick and limited, if conducted at all.

However, all adults MUST have valid government issued picture ID available for presentation to security - -your valid driver’s license is sufficient.  If you arrive without a driver’s license, it is likely you will not be permitted to pass through the security checkpoint.

Please print and complete the updated waiver (attached), which must be signed by a parent/guardian for rowers under age 18.  All rowers must bring the waiver and a photo ID in order to pass through the gate.  Please note that all adult drivers will also be required to present a valid photo ID (driver's license is perfect).

The security checkpoint is located at the Thayer Gate – on the south end of the post - -in the town of Highland Falls, NY.

If parents plan to stay at WP/Highland Falls during the training sessions, the Hotel Thayer (on your right on top of the hill as you pass through the Thayer Gate) is an ideal spot to relax and have a cup of coffee.  It is definitely more comfortable than the boathouse.  If you are arriving with kids that will be in need of more entertainment than that, there is a military museum on the main road in Highland Falls. There is also a Starbucks on site.

Attached are GPS directions to South Dock (please print as car navigation systems do not always provide directions).

GPS Directions (can try these):  South Dock, West Point, NY or Thayer Gate, West Point, NY or Hotel Thayer, West Point, NY – OR use the attached directions.

Ask the MP at Thayer Gate for direction to the boathouse – or to the train station --  and follow these directions:

When you arrive at the train station at the South Dock, go to the left (North), keeping the Hudson River on your right.  About 500 yards ahead on Ernst Road, you will find the WP Boathouse (at the kink in the road just before the River Courts ballfields).  Parking is in front.  Note:  Do not get confused by the sailing docks and the buildings for the sailing team.  The boathouse is a bit further north on Ernst Road.
