Letter from The President

Hello fellow local section members!

As the summer heats up and the days become filled with picnics and pools, I can’t help but reflect on how grateful I am for the Pittsburgh community. It’s been a challenging year in so many ways, but it has allowed for time to take inventory of those areas in our lives that ‘fill our cups’ and prioritize them. One area that I recognize as key for myself is investing in the connections I have with the Pittsburgh OEHS community. We’re so lucky to have such a diverse group of intelligent people to learn from and grow with. I challenge you all in the coming year to make a new connection at a local section meeting and find a new friend. You never know the value that your network may one day provide.

We mark this July with the passing of the torch to our new executive board. I’d like to express my sincerest thanks to those whose terms are ending. Frank Pokrywka served as the local section secretary for a whopping 16 years- a true testament to his dedication to our organization. While Josh Maskrey’s term as director was not as long-lived, we’re incredibly grateful for his contributions to the local section. Please help me extend a warm welcome to our newly elected members to the Executive Board- our president-elect, Timothy Beck; secretary- Renee Cowell; and director Tom Blank.

I look forward to another year of learning and volunteering with you all, hopefully with fewer Zoom meetings and more in person ‘cheersing’. Thank you to everyone for staying connected to the local section over the last year and here’s to the next!

Be well,

Laura Allen
