Tom's Pantry

Tom's Pantry for the week of august 24th 2020.

Baking and delivering this week!

Hello Folks.

I will bake this Wednesday August 26th for pick up at my home on Wednesday evening. Consult the schedule at http://www.tomspantry.ca/.

I will attend the Parkdale Farmers Market in Ottawa this Thursday August 27th from 9am to about 2pm, or until I sell out. The market is now open for pre-orders and for public browsing.

I will deliver to homes on my trip on Thursday to Ottawa. I will deliver in the early morning in Crysler, Limoges, and the east part of Ottawa while going into town. At the end of the day, I will deliver in Ottawa and points on my way home: Metcalfe, Russell, Embrun, Winchester, Inkerman, Chesterville.

I need your order please by Tuesday evening 8pm in order to prepare enough levain overnight. See the product descriptions and ordering considerations here. And then, view the price list and order online with Local Line

Next week, Saturday September 5th, I will be at the Vankleek Hill Farmers Market and I will perform home deliveries on that route and towards Cornwall.

There is a minimum order of two loaves for a home delivery on a scheduled route.

Take advantage of my organic flours and baking ingredients, also available in the virtual store.

Fougasse was a success

After a bit of practice, I made 12 Fougasse breads. They were a big hit and sold out very quickly. Karin writes "The fougasse is excellent. Don’t change a thing! We ate the whole thing for breakfast!

This fancy French bread is a social delight. It is somewhat flat with ribs and gaps. It tears apart easily for great sharing. The sourdough delight starts with half white wheat flour and half whole wheat flour. Then I add fresh organic garlic, fresh cooked green onions, and Herbes de Provence.

Living in the country is preferred

The Canadian real estate market bounced back strongly from the COVID pandemic. Markets in most of Canada see significant increases in property values. Rural Canada and cottage country are the most attractive.

Remax reports that "Rural areas in the Ottawa region have seen an uptick in interest, as buyers look to secure more space and amenities to accommodate a shift toward working from home."

I have also read that that the pandemic is a strong influence as people seek to exit high density areas and look for more space. During a pandemic lock-down, would you prefer an urban condo or a rural home?

Gee, who would'a thunk? Country life, with a few less amenities, is great for health, lifestyle, family, and tele-working.
