Alma is a long-time Republican leader, based in the San Antonio area. She was elected as vice chairman of the Republican Party of Texas at the recent GOP state convention. Born in Laredo, she moved to Bexar County with her parents and seven siblings at a young age. "My parents taught me and my siblings that living in America was an honor and a privilege," she said. Jackson served as Bexar County Precinct Chairman 1987-2016; an election judge for 10 plus years; and SREC Chairwoman for Sen. Dist. 26 from 2014-2016. In 2013, she was honored with the Republican Part of Texas Volunteer of the Year Award for SD26. Where has it gone? We are in desperate times, and we have to stand up and make our voices heard loud and clear! We must Vote for every Republican on the Ballot in our upcoming elections. We must make sure that everyone we know will vote a straight Republican ballot. Make calls, encourage neighbors, mail postcards, work at the Headquarters in Llano. Honestly speaking, the Democratic Party is so far gone they have lost their identity as being civilized. They are breeding such hatred that they have become reckless and dangerous. We have seen recent examples on national television, which also has become a joke. So we ask ourselves "What is left to do?" We Vote, and we Pray! God Bless Our Nation! Keep Texas Red! Gennie Ward, SRW President A Message from Llano County GOP Chairman Doug Sanders The upcoming November election is the most important mid-term election in our lifetime. On the national level, if the Dems take control of the Senate , confirmation of good, conservative federal judges will come to a halt. Senator Cruz is in the fight of his life and his opponent, Beto O’Rourke, is raising 4 times as much money as Cruz—largely from out of Texas contributions. If the Dems take control of the House , they will initiate impeachment proceedings against President Trump and Trump’s (and our) Conservative Agenda (which has, in fact, made America strong and great again) will be severely stymied if not killed altogether. President Trump would be relegated to issuing Executive Orders, which of course can be “overturned by the stroke of a pen” by any future President. On the State and County level, “down ticket” races are most vulnerable. Four out of the six Justices on the Austin Court of Appeals are up for re-election. The Austin Court of Appeals is critically important, because among other things, all appeals of State Regulatory actions are decided by that court. By some estimate, our Republican Justices must take 35% of the mainly liberal Travis County vote to prevail. All of the rural counties in their Judicial District, including Llano County, must have a tremendous voter turnout in order to “shrink” the number of conservative votes needed from Travis County. Otherwise, the Austin Court of Appeals will go Democrat and liberal court rulings will become the norm—all to Texas’ detriment. Your County, State and Country need you!! Voter apathy is our enemy and it is something that is wholly within our control and power to fight. You must not only vote, but you must ensure that your neighbors and their neighbors vote a straight party Republican ticket. Your Llano County Republican Party is organized and is leading the GOTV campaign in Llano County. Contact your Precinct Chair and volunteer to make a few phone calls, put out signs and otherwise engage in the fight! We all must do our part—every one of us. Our future, and our children’s future, depends on it! For information about the Llano County GOP, your precinct chair contact information and more, please visit our new website: www.llanogop.org. "There is no doubt that book donations will better the lives of these children by providing emotional support, academic help and confidence," said Dee Patterson, chairman of SRW's Literacy Committee. The program is being co-sponsored by SRW's Literacy and Caring for America Committees. SRW members are asked to bring children's books to the October 16 general meeting. The books will be delivered to CASA for the Highland Lakes Area to distribute to the children in need. Caring for America Chairman Marsha Lovelady knows first hand about the children served by CASA for the Highland Lakes Area, having served as a CASA volunteer and advocate for numerous children. The purpose of a CASA volunteer is to be appointed by the court to advocate for children who come into the court system primarily as a result of alleged abuse or neglect. The CASA’s role is to advocate for the child’s best interests in the court at every stage of the case once appointed by the court. Additionally, the CASA’s role is to be an individual who respects a child’s inherent right to grow up with dignity in a safe environment that meets that child’s best interests. "Making a small donation of one or more books can give CASA children access to tools and skills that they desperately need and make an impactful difference in their lives," said Marsha. "What a wonderful gift for the children receiving these books, and what a wonderful way for each of us to give back to our community and help ease the burden of these children." When considering purchases, books that can be read to toddlers are greatly needed. For older children, books that are designated as Level 1 or Level 2 readers are needed to get them where they need to be in the classroom. Safe bets are those having received the Newbery Award or the National Book Award Winner. If your children or grandchildren would love the book, these children will as well! Bring one or several books for children to the SRW General Meeting, Tuesday Oct. 16, to help area foster children. Red Shoe Book Club To Meet November 27 Star Republican Women's Red Shoe Book Club will meet Tuesday, November 27, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Lantana Room at the Horseshoe Bay Resort. The featured book selection is “A Piece of the World” by Christina Baker Kline. This book is a powerful story of a woman who lives on her family farm in Maine, tied to her home by health and circumstance. She becomes Andrew Wyeth's first great inspiration and the subject of one of the world's best known paintings, Chirstina's World. The discussion will be led by our 2018 Literacy Committee Chairman Dee Patterson. The book review will be followed by a C.H.A.T. SRW Supports CASA Children Through Book Drive

Star Republican Women announces a new program to provide books to the 274 children currently in foster care in the Highland Lakes Area.

SRW Officers Meet Jim Jordan, Candidate for U.S. House Speaker
by Kathy Hussey, SRW Legislation Committee Chairman & Secretary
| |
|
Jim Jordan, US Congressman from Ohio, and a member of the Freedom Caucus, recently spoke at an event in Fredericksburg, Texas attended by SRW Officers Kathy Hussey, Denise Rives and Gennie Ward.
Congressman Jordan has put his hat in the ring to be Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. Of course, Republicans must hold the majority, first. Congressman Jordan says that if his colleagues give him the opportunity to become Speaker, he is going to focus on “Doing what we said we would do and keep the promises we made while campaigning.” He said he will fight for the things promised to constituents while campaigning and stand up for President Trump.
Jim Jordan is a true Constitutionalist. He believes America is the Greatest Country in the World. He believes in “We the People.” It is “we the people” who loan power to the government to protect the rights we have. God given rights, made in His image. These fundamental values are what make our Nation unique, he said.
Jim Jordan referred to a quote “Every Single Day, in Every Walk of Life, Ordinary People do Extraordinary Things.” This is possible because of our God given fundamental rights. Congressman Jordan reminded us that the first institution God put together was the family, and when you start attacking the fundamentals of the family unit, as the left is doing on a daily basis, you jeopardize ordinary folk accomplishing extraordinary things.
Jim Jordan concluded by quoting scripture 2 Timothy 4:1
Fight the good Fight
Finish the Course
Keep the Faith.
