GRANTS, TRAINING, INFORMATION, RESOURCES AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR LANDHOLDERS Working with farmers to improve farm dams Farm dams are among the most abundant waterbodies in agricultural landscapes. Fertiliser and manure run-off can reduce water quality, leading to higher levels of harmful bacteria and lower productivity. Well-managed farm dams can act as “oases” against droughts for many species. Hence, using farm dams to increase suitable habitats for wildlife is a promising way to help tackle the rapid decline in freshwater biodiversity. Deakin Universities Blue Carbon Lab is running a hands-on science program and is inviting Bass Coast farmers to help the environment by keeping an eye on their farm dam health. For further information on the program and to register your interest to be involved, click here. Agriculture Victoria Climate and Weather Resources Agriculture Victoria have developed a fantastic resource library on climate and weather. If you are looking at the impacts of climate and weather on your farm and are starting to implement climate smart practices on your farm, then you should start your research here. To access these resources and for information click here. Expressions of interests open for Agriculture Victoria's On-Farm Emissions Action Plan Pilot The On-Farm Emissions Action Plan Pilot is part of the Victorian Government’s commitment under the Agriculture Sector Emissions Reduction Pledge to provide practical information, tools and services to support farmers to understand and reduce emissions. The Pilot will work with up to 250 farm businesses across the state to estimate their on-farm emissions profile and identify potential actions to manage and reduce emissions while maintaining productivity and profitability. The final round of the Pilot is targeting the beef, dairy, sheep, grains, pig, poultry and horticultural sectors. The program is an opportunity to learn about and assess your on-farm emissions profile and develop an action plan. For further information click here. Like everyone in our area, the River Garden is extremely dry! For the first time in years, we have been watering weekly. Even the swales which are cut into the hillside and work to store water and keep the soil moist, have dried out in our almost drought like conditions. We are excited to be able to announce a range of workshops coming up this year at the River Garden, funded by Bass Coast Shire Council's Garden Gems program. We will be hosting workshops in May, July, September and November on topics ranging from Introduction to Permaculture and Fermenting and preserving. More news of this to come, with bookings opening soon. These days will be coupled with our River Garden Blitz sessions, where we really need your help to keep the weeds at bay and the produce growing. If you haven't seen our story above, we are also delighted to have our very popular River Garden Kids program back, starting again for another eight sessions in early May, for 3-5 year old's and their families. Once the final details are confirmed, emails announcing the opening of bookings will be sent to our Landcare members first, before advertising to the general public, so watch your inbox for these to get a much sought after spot. We look forward to seeing you down at the River Garden!

Landcare Public Fund making projects a reality – Donate today to make a difference!
The Bass Coast Landcare Public Fund is a regional non-profit organisation focusing on conserving biodiversity throughout Bass Coast. We do this by supporting community groups to work in their local area to add value to their conservation efforts, encourage broader community ownership and participation and by working in partnership with other land managers. We work to help protect native plants and animals in Bass Coast’s most ecologically important landscapes. Your tax-deductible contribution, no matter how small, or by leaving a bequest in your will, helps to protect native plants and animals in Bass Coast’s most ecologically important landscapes.
