District News

the pv hunt

The PV Hunt 2.0 is on! 5th grader Jake McLaughlin and his dad Mike have put together a socially distanced, self-paced way to explore Portola Valley following a series of clues. Get outside and walk, bike, or hike your way from clue to clue. You will need a compass and a phone with a QR scanner along with a thirst for adventure!

The Hunt begins at the corner of Alpine Road and Willowbrook Drive in Portola Valley. Look for the 4x4 inch clue on the telephone pole that looks like the below image. Using your QR reader on your mobile device, scan the QR code and it will pull up a web page describing the clue to the next destination. For more information, go to: https://portolahunt.godaddysites.com/

art to remember - now in 2021

Every year, your child creates beautiful works of art led by their teacher or Ms. Horgan (CMS) and you are able to preserve your child’s artwork on various keepsakes. In light of distance learning, we decided to postpone the Art to Remember program until the spring with the hopes that the project can be teacher or Ms. Horgan led. You will still have the opportunity to purchase keepsakes which will be perfect for family members throughout the year. Questions? Please email Erin Sanders at [email protected]

halloween

It’s October and, for most of our kids, that means the excitement of Halloween is near! Celebrations will be different this year (read the County Guidelines here https://cmo.smcgov.org/press-release/sept-28-2020-local-county-health-officials-offer-guidance-how-celebrate-halloween-and), but that doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy Halloween!

Thank you to Kit Antovich, Sangini Bedner, Kimberly Grauer, Leigh Pyle, Lesleen Riley, Erin Sanders, and Kim Zamboldi for helping “Boo!” our PVSD students this week! We hope your child enjoyed their treat! Please note that we were only able to deliver to students who agreed to share their info with the PTO and are in the school directory - for those students not listed in the directory, but would like to receive a bag (or if your delivery did not arrive), please email [email protected].

Thank you to all who submitted pictures and videos for the first ever Portola Valley Monster Mash-up! The video will be ready by Halloween so keep your eye out for a special PTO message with the link!

Common Ground Speaker Series Upcoming Event

RAISING ANTI-RACIST KIDS

Activating the Next Generation

Featuring Beverly Daniel Tatum, PhD

In conversation with

Allison Briscoe-Smith, PhD

Tues. Nov. 10th

4pm-5:15pm PST

Online Zoom Webinar:  Register to Attend  (Registration closes at 2pm the day of the event)

Through generations of systemic racism, our nation has failed to protect and value Black children and families. Beyond just learning about racism and the inequity that abounds in our communities, the issue of racial justice also requires action. Dr. Beverly Daniel Tatum and Dr. Allison Briscoe-Smith will focus on how we, as parents, can play an active role in building an anti-racist society and supporting a future where all children are valued. Parents will hear practical advice for talking about race and inspiring kids to fight for racial equity.

For event registration and details, visit the Common Ground website.

As a reminder, prior virtual events, including videos of the Markham, College Panel and Kastner events are posted to the password protected page on Common Ground’s website.  Please contact Anne Fazioli-Khiari ([email protected]) or Teri Wolf ([email protected]) for access.
