Summer is officially here!

Scholarships

In our last newsletter we told you of our upcoming scholarship presentation to local high school seniors.  The presentations of the $2000 each awards have been made and the winners are:                  Peyton Guenter, Marble Falls High;       Dylan Wilson, Burnet High;  Mason Brooks, Llano High;    Hanna Sizenbach, Faith Academy 

Congratulations to our scholarship winners!  LBCC is very proud to contribute to the youth of our surrounding communities in this fashion.  Your financial support of LBCC makes this possible. Thank you!

In mid May about a dozen LBCC members fought with a cold north wind to place a million hybrid striped bass fry into our Lake Buchanan.  The project was funded by a  Llano County Hotel Occupancy Tax Grant in the amount of $5461.  We thank the Llano County Commissioners for their continued support of our efforts.


Texas Parks & Wildlife also did some stocking recently, placing 170,000 Florida strain largemouth bass fingerlings and 117,000 striper fingerlings.

Speaking of Fried Fish

Our annual fish fry and silent auction is coming up soon, so mark your calendar for Saturday, August 31st.  This is a major fundraiser for us, with the silent auction making up a significant part of the proceeds.  We are always looking for donations of new items for the auction, while gently used collectibles/antiques would also be welcomed.  Think about it and if you can offer us some help drop us an email -- [email protected].  We will gladly pick up your donations.

And as always we will be needing folks to help us with set-up, preparation, cooking, selling tickets, serving, and clean-up.  Contact us at the above email address if you can help out.

We recently donated to, and installed, a movable dock for the HARTH Foundation (Healing And Rehabilitation Through Horses). HARTH is located on the northeast shoreline of Lake Buchanan in the Council Creek area. The dock will benefit HARTH by making their beautiful shoreline area more useful to their clients.

GOLFERS.........                                            

            A second reminder...............

Our 11th Annual Golf Tournament at Delaware Springs Golf Course will be on Saturday, October 19th.  Full details as well as registration and hole sponsorship information is available on our website; click "LBCC Golf "below. 

In addition to the golfers, we need helpers with the tournament.  We need help at the course the day of the tournament performing various tasks like registration, hole spotters, etc.  But most importantly we need help in securing financial sponsors for this most important fundraising event.  As a member and/or a friend of LBCC we ask you to hep with this task.  Please contact our tournament chairman, Nick Zakoff  at 512-658-9944 or [email protected] for details.

A generous donation was recently given to LBCC by a group calling themselves “H4H” (Headwaters for Heroes, soldiers helpings soldiers).  The donation was in appreciation of our building the pavilion for Llano County Park, which they were using for a fishing tournament. 

This group is, as their name indicates, all about helping other vets that are in need of some rest and relaxation in the great outdoors.  They are a 501c3 non-profit group, chartered in 2016, raising funds in some unique ways.  Check out their website by clicking below.  If you are an “outdoorsman” (or woman!) you might be interested in participating with them.  They are headquartered in Harper, TX, just a hop skip and jump away!

We close with congratulations to Marcos DeJesus, Texas Parks & Wildlife District Fisheries Management Biologist on his promotion to Regional Director-Region 2.  We have worked with Marcos on improving Lake Buchanan since we were chartered in 2006.  We look forward to working with his long time assistant Mukhtar Farooqi, who has been selected as interim District Biologist.
