September's Superfood - Amazing Avocados
By Mrs. Bouman's Class
Did you know that avocados are a fruit? This superfood is packed with 20 different vitamins and minerals. Avocados have vitamins A, B, C, D, B1, B2, E, & K. This small fruit contains more potassium than a banana. They are high in fiber and good for our brains and eyes. Avocados are heart healthy and contain powerful antioxidants to fight against cancer, strokes, and heart attacks. They even help lower your blood pressure. This green fruit is only 160 calories and has 2 grams of healthy fat. Finally, they help our bodies absorb nutrients. All and all they are the perfect superfood to eat everyday!
This month Ms. Grech’s class prepared a healthy avocado dip with carrots and celery for the students to enjoy. The recipe is simple to make and only has a few ingredients.
Robert’s Supermarket has generously partnered with Ormondale School and will be providing all the fruits and vegetables for our superfood program and recipes. Please support Roberts by shopping in their stores.

Vote YES on Z for Ormondale and Corte Madera!
This November, we have the opportunity to vote YES on Measure Z to upgrade and renovate Ormondale and Corte Madera schools. As you may know, some of our classrooms and school facilities, 30 to 60 years ago, need extensive repairs and updates. These immediate needs are straining school budgets.
Measure Z on the November ballot will upgrade our PVSD schools — all funds will stay in our community.
Measure Z will:
- Replace classrooms for science, technology and art instruction at both schools,
- Replace leaking roofs, plumbing and electrical systems,
- Upgrade outdated facilities, classrooms and security systems to improve school security and meet current safety codes, and
- Update educational facilities to keep pace with 21st century teaching and learning.
To learn more or get involved: Go to www.YESonZforPVSD.com or contact Anne Fazioli-Khiari at [email protected]
