Welcome to a new feature we here at ICYT HQ are excited to bring to our dear readers. Every month we will be showcasing a friend with incredible taste levels and vibes. The only prerequisite is taking photos for a week of pure, uncut fits. Like a multi Michelin-starred restaurant omakase menu, this is chef's choice.

Our very first guest is close personal friend Jordana Hon or Ms. Hon as her students call her. She's adept at blending different aesthetics and brands, straddling the line between familiar and unexpected. Featuring Jord was an absolute no-brainer. Without further ado, take it away Jord!

- @ianternetmaster

Hi everyone! My name is Jordana Hon. You may know me as your local High School English teacher, or your local lead singer of the band Our Good Wolf. You may not know me at all - and that is completely fine (more than fine, really)! Nevertheless, I am super honoured to be featured in this month's newsletter courtesy of Ian Chow and Raeland Mendoza. I have recently allowed myself to fully commit to documenting my style in the form of ye ol' Instagram (@j__bosan). So far, it's brought me quite a bit of superficial joy - as fashion does. Here are a few of the outfits I've been donning as of late.

I have always been a huge fan of pops of colour in my outfits. Red is and will always be a statement in and of itself. It's also fun to play with proportions from time to time; although, it becomes less of a choice and more of a need when you're 5'0" tall like me. Pairing the red tunic with the slightly flared animal-print pants just felt right. Speaking of just right, the Dickies jacket was a natural choice considering the fact that the length was perfectly aligned with where the tunic cut off.

One of my favourite things about the Fall season (and there's a lot of desirable parts, trust me) is the magic that ensues when good layering happens! It might be hard to tell with the photo, but I am layering a sleeveless mock-neck top underneath an old black dress with a plunging neckline atop some sheer tights. So as to keep my arms warm, I threw on a secondhand blazer (one of many in this bursting closet of mine) to finish off the look. What I like most about this outfit is the colour combination of the pieces. Doesn't it just scream Fall?

This outfit was a Fri-yay moment for me. I am wearing a very beloved pair of faux-leather pants with a graphic t-shirt and a striped button-up shirt. On my feet, I am wearing a pair of black A.P.C. shoes - an investment from this year that has kept me away from the Dr. Martens store for a necessarily healthy amount of time. I realize that it might be completely uncouth for a 29-year-old to pair white ankle socks with any type of black shoe these days, but I can't help it. I just can't.

For this outfit, I had to break out the oversized men's coat to tackle the brisk 8:00 A.M. weather that we've been experiencing here in Edmonton lately. This coat is so good. I found it at the start of Winter last year and I vividly recall driving directly from the Value Village to my local dry cleaner. I'm pretty sure I tore off the $20 tag in front of the woman working at the till - sheepishly, but ecstatically. This coat is the physical embodiment of Alexa Chung and that is why I love it so much.

Okay, the next two outfits pay homage to all the stylish grandmas that have swept the fashion world off their feet! Big collars have been trendy for a little while now - so when I stumbled upon this gem of a cardigan at Goodwill last year, I couldn't believe it. If you look hard enough, you can find anything at your local thrift store. You just have to be patient - and pray to the manifestation Gods every Sunday. I am also a huge fan of the pearl drop earrings that are furnishing my ears in this photo. They were custom designed by my absolute favourite jewelry business in Edmonton - R & C Jewelry next to T&T in West Edmonton Mall. If you're a jewelry fiend like me and you care to support small (Asian!) businesses, then you have to go.

This next grandma-inspired look has some of my top closet staples in it: the leather coat, the oversized navy blue vest, and the tall chunky Ganni boots. At this point, I have definitely gotten my cost per wear out of all three items. The boots, the boots, the boots. For a long time, I was fearful of the knee-high boot. They never seemed to work with my style. That is until I discovered the chunky-soled knee high boot! Oh, man. These Ganni boots in particular are simply delectable.

Last but certainly not least, we have the final outfit. I love this outfit for all its layers - and each layer adds value to the final look! I am wearing a striped turtleneck, with a Theory biker vest, and a green military liner jacket. The point of interest in the outfit (for me, anyway) lies in the baseball cap. I have always been a fan of the toque, but these days, I am embracing all forms of headwear - including the baseball cap.

Literature

Mieko Kawakami - Heaven (2009)

*I am absolutely obsessed with Kawakami as a writer. I read Breasts and Eggs (2008) during the peak of Lockdown last year and I think I was raving about it (to anyone who would listen) for months to come. For me, voice is everything in literature. If I ever get hooked onto one particular writer, it's because they have a distinct way of articulating their ideas to the reader.

Raven Leilani - Luster (2020)

*I believe Luster is Leilani's debut novel. I finished this one in a matter of days, because I simply could not bring myself to put it down. It is so completely self-aware in stylistic choice and in its characters. I can't wait to see what else Leilani has to offer in the literary world.

Soetsu Yanagi and Yanagi Sōetsu - The Beauty of Everyday Things (2019)

*I haven't read this one yet, but I am dying to get my hands on it. I feel a deep resonance with the concept behind the piece.
