Since the last newsletter, we've received 5 star reviews and one comment. We have 4.6 out of 5 stars and 364 reviews. Our Goodyear Heights Food Center recently received a very generous donation along with a thank you card that said: "While growing up back in the 1970's, my family endured hardship and to this day, I am very thankful for the kind people from Good Neighbors. You were there to give us groceries, as we had very, very little. As you continue your hard work, know that your kindness and hard work has not gone unnoticed and will never be forgotten. Now that I am able to give back, please accept the enclosed donation with many thanks to all!" A family recently donated gift cards in memory of their daughter for a family in need who visits our food center. They stated that their daughter would want them to spread an "Act Of Kindness" for someone in need. Continued prayers for Lee Thomas and her health. We are grateful for her service to Good Neighbors for more than 50 years. Our central office building was built in 1915 and was the headquarters for the Goodyear Boy Scouts. This Fall, we will be replacing the door and frame, repairing and painting the porch. Unit Activities Good Neighbors Food Center The Good Neighbors Food Center entrance and parking lot are located at 1460 Bingham Path, Akron, Ohio 44305 From January through July 29th, our food center volunteers have served 5,974 households which included 20,802 people. By the end of July, we will have served more than 6,000 households. We appreciate the extra help that Dennis Leipold from Leipold Tire gave to us when we were having trouble with our van's tire. Thank you to "Alpha Krappa" Widow's Group for their generous financial donation and continued support. Temple Israel donated hundreds of glass dishes for our clients. So far this year, the Akron Community Foundation , Sisler McFawn Foundation, Lehner Family Foundation, Romweber Memorial Foundation, V. McKibben Memorial Foundation, Burns & McDonnell Foundation and Magnolia Star Foundation have provided financial support. In August, we will be receiving funds from Catholic Charities. Bath Church, Eastwood Church of the Brethren, Emmanuel United Church of Christ, First Church of the Brethren, Grace Baptist Church, Green Valley United Methodist Church, Harmony Springs Christian Church, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Westminster Presbyterian Church have supported our food center with funds and groceries this year. Whole Foods, Giant Eagle, Panera Bread and The Humane Society continue to donate food and pet food. Goodwill continues to donate bus passes. Bill Wise has added a security system and cameras for our food center and van. He placed alarms on our freezers and coolers to make sure they are working properly. We really appreciate all the work he does for us - taking care of our buildings, properties and van. He also picks up food orders, fills clients orders and serves as our trustee chairman. Our security system prevented someone from stealing our cargo van on April 19th. Unfortunately, the handle and door were damaged and the entire door had to be replaced. In 2022, our first cargo van was stolen. Mike Letta volunteered his time to pick up food from the food bank and school drives for many years, he has now retired. We appreciate his service and dedication for so many years. He is missed! After volunteering and financially supporting our food center for 14 years, Bobbie & Jim Stone have retired. We appreciate their service, dedication and generosity. They are missed! Along with our other volunteers, Bill Sudduth has picked up our food orders every Tuesday and Thursday for many years. He also fills in when needed on Mondays and heads up the schools food drive pick-ups. Letters asking the schools in Akron to please hold their annual food drives for us will be mailed out the first week in August. We are grateful for their continued support. Continued prayers for George Camilletti's great granddaughter and the Wise Family . We hope that George is feeling better soon, too. Our deepest sympathy and condolences to Tuesday volunteer Joyce Kingsmill for the loss of her grandson and to Thursday volunteer Renee Cupps for the loss of her mother. We are happy that past Friday volunteer Mary Messenger Melton has returned to help on Mondays. Monday volunteer Cindy Johns has returned to help as needed. Past volunteer Cecil Larabee brought in pizza and visited with the Tuesday volunteers on July 28th. We appreciate the extra help when Megan Zimmer volunteers with her mom Peggy Zimmer. On Friday, May 8th, IBH Volunteers helped our volunteers with spring clean up day. During the summer and holidays, we appreciate the extra help from Archbishop Hoban High School Students and many of our volunteers families. Every year, Jenny Siebert donates flowers and plants them all around our food center and annex buildings. She also serves as the Monday crew leader and Good Neighbors Council President. Our generous volunteers not only donate their time, they donate funds and purchase much needed items to distribute to our clients. Charlene Nevada Krummel serves as the Good Neighbors Ways & Means Chair and is busy writing grants for our food center and central office. Most of our grants are due in the Fall. Kathy Frye manages our food center. We are open Monday through Thursday from 12-3 p.m. and closed on federal holidays. We want to thank all volunteers who are being flexible and taking steps outside of their comfort zones while many take well deserved summer vacations. Your support is very much appreciated. Fifty volunteers donated 4,067 hours during the 2nd quarter! April - June, 2026 - Stats: Year # of Households Served # of people Served 2025 2604 7639 2026 2516 7209 The households served are about 3% less than last year. Our number of individuals served has decreased by over 6%. Our research shows us that some of the larger families have quit coming during 2026 thus reducing the volume number. School Supply Drive & School Supply Giveaway: Our drive to gather supplies from donors, churches and businesses was July 1 - July 16th. Our actual Giveaway will be the entire month of August during regular distribution. Our filled backpacks will be filled with grade level supplies and distributed to our regular clients. Clients will receive an invitation for the event. A letter was sent asking for donations from previous donors. The responses from our very generous donors are outstanding! We have received both monetary and an abundance of supplies. Monetary donations received are well over 6K! Building and Distribution Update: We have had the opportunity to make some building improvements during the 2nd quarter. These investments and completed projects will help to reduce our HVAC bills and maintenance and the longevity of our building. Curb appeal has also improved dramatically. Roof: Roof was replaced over the warehouse and repaired in multiple places over the unit. Siding: Due to significant wind damage the siding in the front of the building needed to be replaced. A special thanks to Andy N for his negotiation and patience while gathering bids and working with our insurance carrier to complete the project. Due to the age of the siding and water damage found - we were able to reside the entire facility. We are also in the process of purchasing and installing new awnings. The new siding blends with other neighboring buildings. It looks great! We think the color combination makes our building "pop"! City of Cuyahoga Falls - will be resurfacing 2nd Street and Changing the Traffic Pattern. Our clients will need to enter our distribution line from the South. They will also need to turn left into our driveaway. We expressed our concerns multiple times but in the end the changes will be made. They did agree to wait until late August due to projected increases in our business during the School Supply Giveaway. Donations: Stow HS Student Council - delivered clothing & toiletries they collected during their Annual Clothing Drive. Lambert Buick - Sponsored a portion of our Backpack purchase by offering a donation of $500.00 Loyal Order of Moose - Bingo Sales $3,500. Western Reserve Hospital - held a drive for the collection of women's specialty toiletries. Church in the Valley, Holy Family Catholic Church, Sicilian American Women's Club - Clothing & Food Donations. Private Donor - supplied us with all the "fixings" for a July 4th Lunch! Individuals and Churches continue to amaze us with their generous contributions. Grants: (These require online applications and documentation:) DUNKIN' JOY - IN CHILDHOOD FOUNDATION - We received an additional $4,000 grant from the Grand Opening of their new Stow location.
