In his Dec. 2, 2022 book review column for The Washington Post, Michael Dirda, Pulitzer Prize-winning critic writes the following:   

"...........If Wolfe is the most sophisticated of authors, that can hardly be said of Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose action-packed romances nonetheless achieve a mythic grandeur that can’t be denied. Over the past few years, Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc. has produced lavish editions of “A Princess of Mars” and “Tarzan of the Apes.” This year those pulp classics are joined by “At the Earth’s Core,” the first Burroughs adventure set in Pellucidar, a realm deep inside a hollow Earth inhabited by monsters, barbaric warriors and, not least, Dian the Beautiful. This “letterpress edition” contains more than 100 illustrations from a dozen artists, living and dead, including three intimately associated with Burroughs’s work: J. Allen St. John, Frank Frazetta and Roy Krenkel."

BOB EGGLETON PAINTING "KICKSTARTER" 

Several customers have indicated interest in purchasing a giclee of Bob Eggleton's magnificent painting for the dust jacket for At the Earth's Core.  This high quality print would be produced by Couplaux on hand made paper.   The size would be 28" x 14" and limited to 100 numbered copies and cost $99.99 + shipping.  We need at least 25 pre-orders to make the project feasible.  Please let me know at [email protected] if you would be interested.

Pre-orders for the limited edition signed and numbered three volume matching set in custom case  will be available on a first come first served basis beginning in January of 2023.  The Moon Maid - The Centennial Edition will be the fourth title in the "New Worlds" series in The ERB Limited Edition Collection. 

MILESTONES OF THE ERB LIMITED EDITION COLLECTION

The ERB Limited Edition Collection is an attempt to create the ultimate editions of select titles from the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs.  Each title is authorized and licensed by ERB Inc. of Tarzana, California and most are published under their imprint.  

The hallmarks of the collection are the artwork and craftsmanship.  For the first time color tipped-in plates have been added to the works of ERB – an average of 18 color plates and 50 black and white illustrations per volume.   Each book is filled with commissioned and colorized illustrations and the best of published and unpublished story-related ERB artwork past and present. Most editions feature multi-panel illustrations with two containing four-page fold-outs. 

Each set is handcrafted and includes a host of bonus items including custom crafted cases, vintage style cloth and leather sewn bindings, foil stamped covers, die cut bookmarks, laminated dust jackets, medallions, color illustrated endpapers, a replica manuscript pen, a glass movie slide and collector archives full of rare replicas of book contracts, letters on vintage paper, manuscript pages, early advertising and first publications in pulp magazines and newspapers.  

Milestones of the collection include:

  • First new book published by ERB Inc. in forty-eight years. (Back to the Stone Age – The Publisher Edition - 2015)
  • Four new authorized Grosset & Dunlap ERB titles including Back to the Stone Age which was the first new G&D ERB book in 75 years.
  • Introduced the “New Worlds” series in 2020 commemorating the titles that launched a new realm of storytelling.  These editions featured drop-spine decorated cases, larger book format and bonus enclosures.  The series includes:  A Princess of Mars – The Manuscript Edition (2020); Tarzan of the Apes – The Artist Edition (2021); At the Earth’s Core – The Letterpress Edition (2022)  and The Moon Maid – The Centennial Edition (2023).  
  • First book publication of the frontispiece and 28 chapter title illustrations for Land of Terror by John Coleman Burroughs, the four paintings reproduced in color by Frank Schoonover for A Princess of Mars, the 22 full-page illustrations by Zdeněk Burian for Tarzan of the Apes and the ten Frazetta pen and ink drawings created for At the Earth’s Core.  
  • First publication of a manuscript page for Tarzan of the Apes that was in not in the pulp or book printings.
  • First full-size publication of the first part of the newspaper serialization for Tarzan of the Apes, At the Earth’s Core and The Moon Maid (2023).
  • Two editions (Back to the Stone Age and At the Earth’s Core) published by hand on a vintage press using metal printing plates.  Each set includes a plate used or designed for the printing of the book.

All books are new in shrink wrap and have not previously been offered for sale and prices include shipping.

John Carter of Mars - (2) Unbound Pre-publication Proof Copies – (2019) The set  includes two unbound, pre-publication proof copies for the ERB Inc. and Grosset & Dunlap book editions.  All of the (22)16-page signatures are folded, pages are trimmed and then gathered(collated), but not yet bound into a book.  Each proof comes wrapped in its original dust jacket.  It is designated "Proof Copy" on the signature page, includes the endpapers and all the original illustrations and has the original die cut book marks.  Both proofs are signed by the book contributors.  No slipcases  ......................................................... $150 for the set of two proofs

A Princess of Mars - The Manuscript Edition Unbound Pre-Publication Proof Copy (2020)  Each of the 16-page signatures is folded, pages are trimmed and then gathered, but not yet bound into a book and comes wrapped in an original dust jacket.  These proofs do not include the endpapers or the 4-page signature section, but has all the text and illustrations tipped in. Limited Edition in Genuine Red Saderra Leather with Hubbed Spine.   #11-20 Signed by the author and contributors and limited to 375 signed and numbered copies. The limited edition of Zeuschner's amazing ERB bibliography sold out almost immediately.  I discovered copies #11-20 in my personal collection and am now offering them for sale. This monumental 700 page masterpiece has over 500 photos and is the most profusely illustrated ERB book we've published.  It contains pics of all the ERB pulp covers, books and dust jackets (1sts and reprints) and paperback and includes  photos of rare inscriptions and editions. ................................... .........................……..….$200
