From Our (Vice) President | |
Hi everyone,
It looks like it's my turn to help with the President's message. I thought when I retired I would have oodles of time on my hands to become a better golfer, fly fisher, and husband. I find it just isn't so Joe, so get on the plane Jane, and let’s go to Jerome CC.
The course is in great condition. Some of you may feel the brown areas are unsightly and some of you may feel we have too many swampy areas. Bart and his crew are doing their best to find a happy medium. I think for the most part they have. It is impossible when you have many areas of shallow soil over bedrock to have a course which is uniformly green. Jeremy worries about this constantly so please give him a shout out.
Our practice area and driving range across the road are starting to look like the real deal. We still have more ideas for this area in the future.
I think so many of us take our course for granted. I would like all of you to notice when you play that if you are in the fairway you will have a close to perfect lie almost 100% of the time. Compare this to many other courses where you often will be in a divot, or a skinny, or tight, or mud lie, i.e. very little grass cushion under your ball.
I am constantly making note of how many expensive courses I have played which do not have the consistency of lie that we do. Our greens are just about perfect right now and very consistent. I have been noticing more ball marks lately, what is this about?
I would remind those of you who like to smack the tee box markers after a bad shot that some of our members worked hard to build these and replacements cost money.
I would also remind those of you who are very early birds that the greens crews have priority. Please wait for them to clear ahead of you or go around, do not interfere.
Another of my pet peeves is dropping the flags of the greens. This does dent the green, and it takes several hours to recuperate. I won't even start talking about those of us who hit ball after to ball to the golf ball gulag to the right of the driving range without ever thinking of aiming more left.
Gee, I bet you thought some of the previous board members were cranky.
Big tournament coming up, I can hardly wait to exhibit my chip yipping, pull hooking, putter shaking skills.
Work hard, be responsible, but above all PLAY LIKE A PUPPY

Congratulations to our recently crowned Senior Club Champions. Steve Nelson won the Men’s Championship shooting a first round 69 and following it up with a very solid 75 in windy conditions. Shauna Robinson defended her 2015 title firing 83-81 - 164 edging Sally Leyse by three shots. Joe Pereira won the overall Men’s Net Senior Club Championship. Bonnie Coats won the overall net for the ladies with a 139. The complete results may be found at the Jerome Country Club web site. The regular Club Championship (Men and Women) will be played August 13 & 14. Sign up in the golf shop. The August Tournament schedule includes the previously mentioned Club Championship on the 13th and 14th. The Women’s “Rally for the Cure” on Wednesday, August 17th and the Two Person Classic - August 26th thru 28th . The Classic is a two of three days event. Two person teams will play a two-person best ball on Saturday (9:00 Shotgun Start). The teams will play a McCall Scramble on either Friday or Sunday. Friday and Sunday start times will be made by the players and the golf course will be open for non tournament play on those days. Men’s Flights and Couples/Women’s flights are included. We would like to encourage women’s teams and couples teams to sign up. Thanks to all of you who have supported the JCC Junior Golf Program it has been a great success this season. 48 junior golfers signed up, and an average of 31 participated each Tuesday and Thursday in June and July. These young players are the future of JCC.
