GOLDEN HEARTFELT THANKS FOR SUPER STAFF LUNCH!
The PTO would like to thank Linda Kamran for organizing a lovely Golden Garden themed Super Staff Lunch at Ormondale on Wednesday, January 22. The staff and teachers were raving about the homemade food and staff room transformed by golden touches, whimsical decorations and handwritten notes from second graders to each of the teachers on the tables and posters around the room.
Thank you to all the second grade parents who brought delicious food, helped to set up & clean up and monitored the office and pick-up line so our staff could have a well-deserved break!
We so appreciate these stellar parent volunteers: Nelly Wolfson, Meghan Imrie, Lily Fogarty, Dale Kane, Katy Barresi, Rachel Reilly, Johanna Street, Jessica Leino, Rui Yan, Shani Lewis, Carlos Betancourt, Michelle Walker, Amy Okarma, Laura Mather, Kim Cashin, Cassie Hansen, Alaleh Axdmehr, Lalanie Robins, Teri Wolf, Dawn Axelrad, and Renae Killen.

THE GOLDEN STATE ROAD WARRIORS BASKETBALL TEAM
The GSRW wheelchair basketball team based in the Bay Area will be coming to Ormondale this Wednesday, January 29 at 9:00 a.m. for a TK-3 assembly. The GSRW players will not only talk briefly about the history of the team and their current season but also host a demonstration and allow some volunteers to get on the court to play. There may even be an opportunity for staff to play!
This assembly was selected to illustrate Ormondale’s life skills of problem solving and teamwork. We look forward to hosting the GSRW - this has been a favorite assembly among the students in the past.
If you have any questions about this event, please contact Anne Fazioli-Khiari ([email protected]).

GET READY FOR ORMONDALE'S SCIENCE FAIR AND INVENTION CONVENTION!
The Fair starts on Tuesday February 4th, when students can bring their displays to the Ormondale MUR just before school.
Ormondale's Science Night will be held on Thursday the 6th from 6pm-7:00 pm. It's a time when families can come to view the displays, and hear what our resident Scientists and Inventors have been up to! Please plan to come a little early and have dinner, as there will be food trucks serving one hour before the event.
Interested in volunteering at the Science Fair? We are looking for volunteers to help collect science projects on Tuesday February 4th from 7:45am - 8:30am, additional volunteers to write Commentary Notes on the Science Fair Boards.
We are also looking for parents to help with the "Make it and Take it" event which will be held on Thursday January 30th. "Make it and Take it" event is a special session for students who need a little more support to create a Science Fair display so they can participate in the event. Please contact Mrs. Rusch ([email protected]) for more details.
Please plan to pick up projects 7:00 at the end of the Science Fair Night February 6th.

Your Foundation Dollars at Work
Week 15: ROPES Program - Rite of Passage Experience
Beginning this year, graduating 3rd, 5th, 7th and 8th graders can mark their passage from one phase of their education to another with a ROPES project. Officially called a “Rite of Passage Experience” and funded in part by the Portola Valley Schools Foundation, ROPES are an optional passion project that students can work on outside of school over the course of several months.
Similar to a thesis project, the effort can be artistic, an invention that fulfills a real-life need, a personal adventure or reflection, a service or advocacy effort, among other possibilities. Whatever the subject matter, the project has to demonstrate critical thinking, research, creativity or school learning. Students can work on them independently or with a partner.
At the end of the year, students who decide to participate will present their projects to a panel of judges. Those that meet the judges’ criteria will be awarded a decorative rope and honored at a reception.
In the words of Ormondale Principal Lynette Hovland: “The confidence and satisfaction that a student who completes a ROPES project gains helps them to be successful in many avenues of their academic life.”
