SPIRIT WEEK
Each year we have three Spirit Weeks at Ormondale. Traditionally, the week prior to Winter Break is our first Spirit Week of the school year. This year will be no different! Please see below for a list of Spirit Week events:
Monday, 12/14 - Hat Day: Wear a hat to school or PVVA - beanie, baseball cap, cowboy hat or Santa hat, antlers you name it, any headgear will do!
Tuesday, 12/15 - Candy Cane Day: Wear red/white or green/white or stripes to school or PVVA.
Thursday, 12/17 - Ormondale Pride Day: Deck yourself out in your Ormondale spirit wear including your fancy Ormondale masks!
Friday, 12/18 - Pajama Day: Everyone’s favorite spirit day - wear your coziest jammies to school or PVVA.
Spirit points will be awarded to classes with the most participation. Last year, Mr. Rickert and Ms. Woolfe’s classes were battling it out for the Most Spirited Class when we got interrupted by Covid-19. Whose class will be the Most Spirited of 2020-2021? Can’t wait to see!

MOVING FOR MEALS
Our second grade students are sponsoring a “MOVING FOR MEALS” event to help raise funds for the Second Harvest Food Bank Virtual Food Drive. The second graders have been learning about communities and most importantly how to work together to help and care for others in their communities. Moving For Meals is an opportunity for them to participate in a special community service project to help those in need. Their goal is to reach out to family members, neighbors and friends to ask for their support in helping them raise money for the virtual food drive. On Thursday, December 17th they will exercise (jump rope, hula-hoop, run, bounce, etc) for 30 minutes to raise money for this cause. Their goal is to raise $2000. Support a second grader and help them to meet their goal!

SECOND HARVEST
Virtual Food Drive - Dec. 1 to 18 Our holiday Food Drive for Second Harvest Food Bank has long been an important tradition at Ormondale. Unfortunately, because of COVID their traditional food drive program has been placed on hold, which means we will not be able to have any barrels placed at Ormondale this holiday season. So now, we get to practice our Ormondale life skill of flexibility as we move to a Virtual Food Drive for 2020.

PHOTO DAY
Mark your calendars! School photos will be taken on Tuesday, January 12. Each class will be assigned a time to go in and have individual photos taken. Due to COVID-19 restrictions we will unfortunately not be able to take class photos as we have in the past. Instead, class photos will be more traditional in nature with all of the children’s photos appearing on one sheet (old school style like when we were kids). PVVA students will be able to come in that day to have their photos taken as well. As we get closer to the date, we will set up appointments for PVVA students to come in to have their photo taken. More information about this when we return from Winter Break in January.

CMS STUDENT COUNCIL TOY DRIVE
CMS Student Council is running a Toy Drive during the month of December for the Good Tidings Foundation. Students will earn spirit points for their grade if they bring in a new, unwrapped toy for children ages newborn to 15 years old. The toy drive starts on Tuesday, December 8th and there will be large grade level bins outside of CMS for students to drop in a toy if they choose to participate! The Student Council will be creating flyers/posters to put up around campus.

Your Foundation Dollars at Work | |
Thank You to Our Grade Captains
Behind any successful fundraising effort are the people who do the hard work of reaching out to donors, explaining the mission, graciously asking for support and -- if all else fails -- shamelessly wheedling and begging. We at the Portola Valley Schools Foundation are truly grateful for our hard-working Grade Captains. Without them, there would be no annual campaign. And without them, our students’ educations would be impacted. All those benefits the Foundation supports: Art, Music, enriched Math and Science curriculum, additional teachers and specialists plus counselors and tools that make our schools great… all are possible because of them. We know that asking for money isn’t easy, especially during these difficult times, so we applaud them with full hearts.
