Guest Speaker: Rick Petrocelly from The Olive Tap
Richard (Rick) Petrocelly
Born in Pittsburgh, PA to Italian Immigrants Oratzio Petrocelli (Acqua Viva di Isernia, Molisa) and Maria Furguiele (Mendacino Cosenza, Calabria).
Rick began working in the family's Italian Restaurant, Petrocelly’s, Pittsburgh, PA at age 10 and took over management at age 18. Rick was also a celebrity chef at DiSalvo’s Restaurant, Mundelein IL in 2005 and 2006.
He graduated from Washington and Jefferson College, Washington PA in 1973 and worked in the healthcare industry from 1974 through 2003 for 3M pharmaceuticals, Dentsply International, Sybron Dental, and Chicago based Hu-Friedy Instruments.
Rick became interested in the premium olive oil business in 2004. He attended: The Olive Oil Institute, New York City in 2006 and opened The Olive Tap Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar Tasting Emporium that same year.
He attended courses on Olive Oil at UC Davis in California and Toledo Spain, and Balsamic Vinegar production in Modena, Italy.
Rick franchised The Olive Tap in 2007, with stores in Rhode Island, North Carolina, Pittsburgh PA, Cleveland Ohio, Des Moines Iowa, Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs, Colorado, Long Grove, Crystal Lake, and Downers Grove, IL.
He currently operates theolivetap.com website, The Olive Tap’s in Long Grove, Manitou Springs, and Colorado Springs, CO with his wife Kathi Petrocelly.
